I'm almost excited. :pimp:

I hit a milestone with my business this week. :D Time to palm the kids off to the Grandparent's place and take Mrs Aussie Bob out on the town for some dinner and dancing. :D

Aussie Bob can dance. ;)

Is Rolf Harris or Kylie more your style Bob - which do you prefer to dance to? :D

Congrats on hitting the milestone - going to drop a hint of what it is?

xtstrike: Nah, that post is for my 2,000th post :D ;)

Matt: Just a certian number of accounts. :pimp:

SWR: Yeah, but I'm an Aussie and as thick as 2 bricks, so hitting the head doesn't seem to have adverse affects. :stickout

Are we talking customers, customer accounts, all accounts (including reseller-created)?

Geeeeeese, you lot are a nosy bunch. :D

The milestone was 200 separate client accounts. [it's 214 now ;)] I'm very goal oriented and have the numbers up on the office whiteboard. I remember when I hit 50 clients. I took Mrs Aussie Bob out to dinner at the Hog's Breath Cafe. We then had cappuchinos and mud cake at a local coffee shop. If you've got 4 children, then you appreciate going out on your own etc. It was like a hot date. :D ;)

I said to the kids that when daddy reaches 200 accounts, we'll all go to Sea World on the Gold Coast. But the weather's not been the most receptive for that kind of activity, so we'll have to hold off until it gets a bit warmer.

Maybe when we hit 500 accounts, I'll take them on a trip to the USA - to the NAC and HE.net datacenters. Might even drop in on Disney World too. :rolleyes: I'd prefer a "datacenter crawl" though. :buck: :D

Im sure your kids would love to pull on wires and play with all the shiny objects in a datacenter.

It's nice to be different from the rest of the noisy pack. Folks remember you and talk about you. :D:agree: [even if they think you're off the deep end ;)]

how LONG in total did it take you to reach 200 client base?

Since Dec 2001. First client on 31/12/01, 15 minutes before New Year's Eve. The client base is doubling every 90 days. I don't know how long it will keep going that way for. Maybe it slows down, maybe it speeds up. Time will only tell, and I am in no rush. :)

I'd say the hardest part for any hosting business would be the first 50 or 100. After that, you just go with momentum and sales are a natural part of doing a good job looking after your existing client base. I'm not interested in advertising to increase the client base. Just let it grow organically, is my feeling...

Let me know when you plan the DW trip, I live 3 miles from the theme parks (and it's not a blessing, mind you....traffic on I-192 is a pain in the a$$)

Humble beginnings indeed at mchost. :) Even the greatest of creatures start their existance as cells, or something like that. :buck:

Actually, they were pretty much just getting started too when I first started out. Now look at how far they've come and we've come an awful long way too. :D Imagine the next 2 to 5 years? :pimp:

How did you obtain your 1'st 50? Advertising? word of mouth? :D

The milestone was 200 separate client accounts.

That was going to be my guess =)

Congrats ole Aussie Bob, you've worked for it =)

It would have been wicked to hit 2000 posts, just when that 200th customer signed up, but hey! if you post a lot less, you could hit 2000 posts, at your 2000 customer... it could happen!

mdrussell

I guessed that too - based on previous conversations with Bob. Anyway Bob, congratulations! :D :pimp:

Did some PPC SE promotion with Overture.com. Had a JV with a webmaster's ezine. Google also kicked in after a while. And general word of mouth. It's been a slow and steady climb, and that's just the way I like it. One or 2 new accounts per day is good fishing indeed. :pimp:

Don't forget the marketing claim that httpme used to run about how they were building a unique community that would stop signing up new accounts when the number of accounts reached 200 :pimp: :buck:

Of course there was the hidden rider about how this would change if business conditions changed.

Well I guess businesss conditions changed. They changed because httpme signed up more than 200 accounts !! :pimp: :buck:

We will be stopping accounts at that level and consulting the .COMmunity if we should move on. Here's a little thread for you to read - http://www.httpme.com/showthread.php?threadid=422

This was discussed with the .COMmunity about a month ago and we'll hold more discussions and then a .COMmunity vote if we as a .COMmunity should move forward.

Sorry you didn't get the memo. :rolleyes: :cartman:

OK aussie bob, no need to stop at any number of accounts if you can still offer the same level of support while you expand.

Good luck for your continued growth.

Thanks. :)

Not sure if we'll keep going. It all depends on the .COMmunity etc.

Congrats! I remember when I reached my first 200 I was extremely excited!!! :)

But once you go past 500 clients, it doesn't seem anymore exciting until you reach your 1000th and then that doesnt get any exciting until you reach your 2000th..

My happy level:

200 th = EXCITING
500 th = EXCITING
1000th = EXCITING
2000th = EXCITING
5000th = EXCITING

anything in between those numbers aren't exciting at all :)

Actually we are going to be full of tourists soon. the rest of the world is starting to wake up to us, and there are 2 new ships bring people in daily. We also have a new Air Service into Hobart which started last week. Would you believe we had Richard Branson dressed up in a Tasmanian tiger suit, with whiskers painted on his face!

Let me know when you get down here, and we'll have a beer and I'll take you for a ride on the motorbicycle.Cheers,
Eric G. :beer:
