Anybody around here using Roadrunner? Im from the Wisconsin area, Oshkosh to be exact, and I have been having horrible problems with them! They have been having a problem with their Greenbay router for weeks now, nearly a steady stream of packet loss ranging from 50% to 100% at this router. You call their local support, and your explaining the fundamentals of a decent ping while they are looking to blame the following:

A. Your knowledge (ok, im a dumbass I admit it)
B. Your NIC (huh George??? I call my computer Jimmy)
C. Your Hub (what the hell do my tires have to do with this??)

It's rediculous! Everytime you call these people they refuse to admit that Bob the network admin decided to take the router, re-wire it into a multi-player online pong machine, and cause me and the rest of the people in my area great deal of greif.

I call their Corporate offices and use my wordic ability and I get the same thing, either story A, B, or C.... one guy suggested that maybe TCP/IP became corrupted.... not on one machine... but on my 98, my 2000, and my Linux box and suggested I reinstall.

I dunno what to do here... I want to send the CEO a book titled "Upset customers and you, how to produce believeable bulls***".

I feel better now, Im gonna go click the post button now and grab a soda for the road while I run these packets to the WHT server myself.

Warm regards from a person who chose to click the red faced icon of doom,

Mike

Oh yea... remember....

Sorry to hear your misfortune.... I guess I'm lucky in that I have fairly decent and reliable isp.

I was one of the first customers on the system in Green Bay and the speed then was great. Lately I've started calling it slow runner because during the day and on the weekends I'm better off with a 56k modem. E-mails to tech support go unanswered, etc, etc. There are a number of newsgroups you may want to follow. There are 8+ groups named roadrunner.new.something. Also the national group alt.fan.roadrunner. I'm still waiting for DSL to become available in this area then either RR will shape up or they will lose a large number of customers. Aslo lately I've had a ton of port scans, it looks like they are hunting for servers on the network.
Had 4 scans in a few seconds....
The firewall has blocked Internet access to your computer (FTP) from 24.30.218.54 (TCP Port 2617).

The address traces back to
Tracing route to securityscan.sec.rr.com [24.30.218.54]

I've had similar scans from rr domains as well. And right after I had one such scan I noticed somebody trying to login to my Linux box via anonymous ftp... kinda makes you wonder sometimes...

I use Road Runner here in Central FL. When it's up, it's GREAT! But there are those times when it is either down or slow. Very FRUSTRATING.

When it goes down, I always call them and request a credit to my month's bill!:)

I think that is the only good thing about it, I can't remember the last time I had to pay for my cable :P

Apparently a major network hub about a 1/2 hour from my house went down months ago cutting speeds by more than half. I was averaging 500kb/s, but it's been near, or below, 150kb/s forever now.

So far with Road Runner, I am pleased. Atleast for the Houston/ Sugarland area I have had no serious problems with them as of yet. A few times the line went down, but it was back up a few hours later and it didn't become a habit for them. though I have noticed that lately they have become alot faster in their speed than normal. Ohwell, means more fun for me I guess.
Sorry to hear about your RR problems, ever thought about emailing the CEO stating that you know where there backbone facility is and that you have a pair of wire cutters inches away from snippidity snipping their line?

This was posted today to the offical NEW RR Website

Current:
Slow Internet Browsing. Circuits, 3 times our current capacity, were ordered last October with an installation date of early January. For various reasons outside of our control, these circuits have yet to be installed. Due to this, the circuits going to the Internet from our network may peak at high usage times. We are doing everything possible to expedite installation of these circuits.

Thank you for your patience during this process. We at Road Runner are committed to providing you with the highest quality service and the best Internet experience possible.

RR is horrable for me and I am looking at DSL as away from it. There support is bad. And there routers are down here a lot too.

I've been with RR now for 8 months - at first there we problems with their connections going down intermittently but the last few months have been smooth sailing.

They do not hesitate to credit my account whenever there is noticeable downtime (and I call them about it).

Their tier 1 technical support is lousy though but if you get a support ticket and get up to tier 2 support, those ppl usually know what you're talking about. The problem with tier 2 is that you have to wait for the techs to call you back which is frustrating if you are without any internet access.

There is a good deal going on with Telocity DSL services here in my area (no contract, free set-up, 1st month free) but I've heard horror stories about their DSL set-up and I'm not sure if I want to switch since I'm quite happy with my service now. "Don't fix it if its not broken"

I believe each RR region is different and thus your personal experience might differ from mine so to better gauge the RR service in your region, ask the ppl who live there.

My RR region is NEO, btw.

Good Luck.
