I posted this on Rackshacks forums. I got 0 replies after 4 days, so Im posting it here
====================================
I am looking for a good SCSI 2 or SCSI 3 or IDE (maybe even usb2.0 or firewire) tape backup drive for windows 2000. Anything above 7 GB will work, but obviously the more the better :)
Any suggestions? This is (obviously) not for my rackshack server but I cant think of a more server-knowledgable group than rackshack clients.
I was looking at an Internal IDE Sony Superstation, but I know the drivers/software for win2k for that are trash. I was also looking at some Seagate models, but again software/drivers were trash.
I REALLY appreciate ANY help with this one, Ive been checking ebay and all I found was what I listed above. Thanks in advance.

Dpeending on what exactly your looking for and how much your willing to spend when I order servers for our retail stores (other job) we get DLT drives for them running WIN2K advanced and they seem to be pretty nice, our backups are minimum (4-8gb) daily but I am pretty sure the tapes hold something like 40gb no compression and 60gb compressed. Tapes are a litle pricey but they last forever. (not literally) so you might wanna look around for one of those ebay might have a couple deals.

3M you say archie?
I can spend around $300...
Ill search both 3M and DLT on ebay (seperate searches) and see what comes up.
Thanks for the input :)

Look at travan tape drives....they are a little cheaper.

Will do...though travan is what Ive mainly been focusing on
Any suggestions for manufacturers (travan wise)?

It probably doesn't matter. I would expect that all the internals of the tape drive are made by the same company. The only differences I would expect would be warranty and included software.

Alrighty...thanks
One last question, Parallel ports are pathetically slow (by today's standards), right? So stay away from Parallel port tape drives...

Yep, you are right....go firewire or IDE/SCSI/USB2.0

Try and stick to a DLT drive. They seem to work longer/better and are more reliable (in my opinion) than DAT/DSS

Errr, sorry about my extreme noobishness here, but what category do 4mm/8mm drives belong to, DAT or DSS?
And uh....whats the difference between them all?
Lol I know Im such a nooby at this, but I gotta learn somehow, sorry :(
