I'm planning on getting a laptop and a new TV for my room, and was wondering if it was possible to connect them. For example, the same thing would be show on the computer as the TV. So I would beable to watch TV on the laptop, also, could I hook it up so I can get the computer screen on the TV, I think that is easy, I don't know about the watching TV on the computer though. Can anyone give some advice, what would I need, is it possible?

Thanks!

Well,
I am watching TV on my computer, without having a TV. I have an antena (OR CABLE) pluged into my computer, ATI Card. IT also great if you have Dule monitors :D

Is it possible to just get some sort of cable to plug in the TV to my laptop? That way they can be syncronized, and if I'm watching a DVD on my TV, then it can be on my laptop screen too?

You may be able to do the TV -> Laptop with a PCMCIA tv/video capture card - I've seen things that may do what you're after in my local Harvey Norman (computer superstore here in Australia) so check around local computer stores.

As for Laptop -> TV; I used to do this so I could watch DVDs on my TV before I had a standalone DVD player. My laptop has an RCA video-out jack on the rear which goes to the TV. The only bad point is that because of the limitations of televisions - you'll only be able to use 640x480 clearly - anything higher will be blurry.

Of course this all depends on whether your laptop has TV-out or not. You'll have to check your documentation. Look for an RCA style connector on your laptop somewhere :) (although my old laptop had a proprietary plug - not rca; but it came with the adapter cable).

haven't used the USB one of these but I have a Hauppauge set up in the desktop - excellent product. I watched 911 unfold almost a year ago on this very desktop.

Keyword being laptop - they don't have all those nice little PCI/AGP slots for you to place TV in/out cards, etc.
