View Full Version : Why do transfers have to be so complicated?

After 4 tries at getting the EPP code from godaddy, I recieved a confirmation link from namecheap on May 18, which I clicked and approved the second it arrived. I got a transfer rejected mail from namecheap today because I didn't authorise it

So back to square one. I managed to get the EPP straight away this time from godaddy and just clicked on the confirmation link and approved the transfer again. Let's see if this one goes through without a hitch.

Transfers could be like a breeze IF you choose the right registrar.

My transfer took two weeks from 1and1 to Name.com, make sure you do every single step from Godaddy, and this way, it will be easier.

In this case, I would need two "right" ones, one to move from and one to move to. But if the "from" registrar was "right", I wouldn't need to move  :P

You should always try to follow the 'procedures' of your reg.
but in reality, GoDaddy is 10 x more flex. than 1 & 1, well that's been my experience.

Ae-mouse, the answer to your dilema, is: - have 2 'enom' accounts ;)

I recently transferred a bunch of domains to NameCheap with no problems at all, they all went through first time (I was transferring from 123-Reg, DreamHost and a couple of web host domain resellers).

NameCheap are fantastic, I love their control panel...

LOL! Transferring between registrars doesn't necessarily translate into the losing registrar being bad. Very often, it's just consolidation or price consideration. Of course, we would expect some "reluctance" from the "loser"; but even more importantly, it's the GAINING registrar that one has to choose right. By the way, I have transferred away from GoDaddy in less than an hour.

Someone told me when I was transferring out of GoDaddy that even though it doesn't say anything about it, if you click the link it in their authorization letter, it will be expedited. It's very misleading on GoDaddy's part, since the letter clearly states "you do not have to do anything if you approve the transfer out." At least namecheap tells you if you click to authorize it rather than just ignoring the link and letting it go through by itself, it will be expedited.

GoDaddy has got to be the worst. Do you know I got a phone call last week from them, even though I'm not a customer of theirs and haven't been for over a year trying to sell me their services? Pretty low. :(

We've transfered at least a few hundred domains from Godaddy over the last few years. I would say maybe 50% were completed in less then 2 hours. The other half failed multiple times, required numerous phone calls to godaddy "support", and finally completed.

G'day.

Of course I put the EPP in otherwise I wouldn't have had a confirmation request.

Oh God - how I hate doing domain transfers.

Its one of those things I dread, because you just know you're in for a long painful process that may not even work out.

Something has to be done about this, there is clearly no incentive for registrars to improve the transfer process. None of them want to lose clients, what incentive do they have to make transfers easier.

There should be some kind of publicly available registrar ranking stats for transfer failures and durations. Then it could be publicly exposed how shocking this is and then show up those registrars that are deliberately blocking transfers.

I'm with GoDaddy and they are terrible with transfers. I'm trying the third attempt now to transfer a domain away from them - they just keep rejecting the transfer requests and when you ring them up they claim to know nothing about it. Load of BS !

Yep.

I have been there with transferring names away from GoDaddy. It seams to be hit and miss at best.

It is not a surprise that transfer procedure itself is very complecated and in general it can take up to 3-8 days. So the best way to avoid all troubles connected with transferring domain is not to transfer it!

Hmmm. To me it looks that they (NameCheap) have closed the ticket you were suspected to answer...

Anyway, has the transfer been successful?

Please let us know.

What response do you need from the losing registrar? All you need to do their side is to unlock your domain, get the EPP code and (if there's need) update administrative email. All decent registrars allow this to do via their interface, without actually contacting them.

Yes, one of the staff picked up on it from the ticket number posted here and put in back in queue.

I wonder if I should try another one now
