About a week ago I started to notice that whenever I would ftp my updates/changes to my websites The change would not be visible for 24hrs or so on my end. When I execute my ftp to view changes it shows the updated version, but yet my browser shows the old version. I have tried clearing the cache, history, temp internet files and did a disk clean up (I do those daily anyway) but it still shows the old version. Is it something on my end, my ISP or something else?

NOTE: sometimes I see the changes right after I upload while most other times I don't. Why/how come?

I have never had this problem before it started a week ago.

Any clearification or suggestions to fix the problem would be appreciated.

You must have a proxy server - either set in your settings or transparent (by your ISP).

When you visit the page, try the following:

a) Press Shift+Refresh ;or
b) Press CTRL+Shift+Refresh.

Either of those two usually work for me.

If it started out of the blue; then my guess is that your ISP has implemented a transparent caching system. Basically their routers intercept outgoing http requests and redirect it to their proxy servers which can return a cached copy if it exists - it saves bandwidth and data transfer which usually results in saving money; especially for popular sites.

Those commands mentioned above should instruct the proxy server to ignore what it is in the cache and return a new copy.

I hope it helps.

Shaun

This should have been Cache problem, but as you say you cleaned it then you contact ISP for the same. Cache gets cleared on cleaning temporary internet files.

Did you send message to ISP regarding the same?

Depending on the ISP - they most likely won't care. Most likely they'll tell you to "check your settings" and that will be the end of it.

The workarounds I mentioned previously have always worked for me when I've been on ISPs where transparent caching has been an issue.

I used to have the same problems when my ISP implemented "Cache Flow" but they seem to be caching less and less so I dont mind anymore. You should be able to email your ISP asking them not to cache certain IPs (i did that so I coudl see my websites as I updated them) :)
