View Full Version : UMMK - I cant afford much now, im BROKE
XTStrike 08-24-2002, 04:05 PM This weekend i have spent £1,700 ($2,600)
one a 32" Sony Trinitron Wide Screen TV
and a 100w Technics AV Amp (£300) and a set of 100w Eltax 5.1 Surround Sound Floor standing speakers (£400)
Its quite impressive, all i can do when i have it on playing the fast and the furious in DTS Digital Audio is grin from ear to ear.
Anyone else have anything similar?
Darth 08-24-2002, 04:11 PM ouch

I wanted to post a poll about which of my current girlfriends I should marry, but the limitation to 10 votable positions ruined that attempt... therefore I remain single

Samuel 08-24-2002, 09:19 PM =) Supposed to have been a good shot, here is what I get with the canon digital.
mdrussell 08-25-2002, 04:11 AM Put to shame here, 28" Panasonic with DTS5.1 - Kenwood amp, Toshiba DVD player.
Can't remember the model numbers though...
WoodShedd 08-25-2002, 04:22 AM The guy i rent from has a nice big 40" (I think. all I know is that its bigger than 32") high definition flatscreen TV with dvd and this cool Bose 4 speaker plus subwoofer surround sound system.
I'm allowed to come upstairs and use it whenever I want
SoftWareRevue 08-25-2002, 04:55 AM LOL. . . . . I use my 35" TV for the bedroom.
The living room has a 'real' one. :D

Noone likes a showoff. :stickout Especially those who don't have a 32" Wide screen TV. :bawling:
XTStrike 08-25-2002, 05:38 AM ok, so some people here have some nice audio visual kit :)
im new to the market, ive previously not had anywhere near the cash required for decent equipment.
BTW, now im really struggling for cash is there anyone out there that wants to offer to pay me to do anything?
Im not sure what you would want me to do, im good at a few things (please no offers of sekzual acts :D (i get enough of them as it is) (i wish))
Please contact me by e-mail if you think i can do anything for you, as you all already know im a pretty honest guy, just dont think ill always be stretched for cash, this is a one off (Damn You "Richer Sounds")
Anyways, good to see so many people with such nice audio equipment :)
mdrussell 08-25-2002, 05:41 AM If we're talking Audio kit I can maybe compete - excluding the AV kit, I have a nice Technics amp, Nad CD player and some Mission speakers - although its a few years old now...
Just make sure you don't get the Richersounds newsletters - the prices almost tell you to get your wallet out and pick up the phone
Pilgrim 08-25-2002, 05:46 AM I have this little black and white thingy. Don't know the size of the screen but my monitor seems to be slighthly larger.
...then again, I don't think I've watched tv for the last 10 years with the exception of the news :(

Nah, perfectly ok. Let those shof offs have their fun :P
richy 08-25-2002, 10:36 AM well im quite happy with my setup thanks :) insert a funky leather chair, sanyo nasty 50 quid vcr hooked up to a haupague card displaying on a viewsonic 17 inch black flatscreen monitor with sound provided by a rather spiffing JSH guitar amp run from jetways finest onboard sound. should really get an elliot amp soon. 400 watts is never enough.
archie2 08-25-2002, 12:43 PM ITs only 32 inches? You should have went for at least a 40 inch :)
my 28 inch was only $250!
okihost 08-25-2002, 12:53 PM All I have is a 27" Toshiba and one of those home theater in a box deals from Pioneer that I got over at Best Buy for 400 bucks.. Actually sounds pretty good. I have a small living room so gives plenty of power. Thats about it for me until I can talk the wife into a bigscreen :bawling:
Alex[nl] 08-25-2002, 01:23 PM I just bought a Sony Reciever (STR-DJ675) .. It turns out my TV is far to small to brag here... Just 21"... however I do have Bose 501 Speakers with that...

32-bit Dolby Digital, Dolby Pro Logic and dts decoder/DSP

Coaxial digital input
3 S-Video inputs, 1 S-Video output
Control A1 II interface
More info on the reciever (http://www.sel.sony.com/SEL/consumer/ss5/home/homeaudio/receivers/str-de675.shtml)
Samuel 08-25-2002, 02:15 PM TELEVISION - $2400.00
36XBR12250 (http://www.epinions.com/elec-Video-Televisions-All-Sony_KV-36XBR250/display_~reviews)
RECEIVER - $600
STRDE835 (http://www.technofile.com/articles/sony_str835_receiver.html)
DVD - $485
DVP-S550D (http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/B00000JSES/epinions/002-3389225-1134435)
That was when I bought them, the extended warranties added I think 600 to those figures.
It definitely rocks like a theatre.
This was due to xstrikes request for links to informaiton, I love sony.
Samuel 08-25-2002, 02:22 PM I know it's a crappy camera, it's real touchy.
This is what it will do when I take care with it and the reason I hung onto it was because when it was bought, it was the only one that would run on windows 2000.
This little guy sits on my desk all day.
StarGate 08-25-2002, 03:59 PM Hehe, TECH WARS going on here :P
XTStrike 08-26-2002, 04:09 AM Samuel, pretty much the same setup as i got here for the amp and dvd.
the screen is awesome, certainly something id like if i had that kind of cash!
Samuel 08-26-2002, 05:26 AM The only problem with this television is it's weight (500 Lbs)
It is awesome though, absolutely everything I wanted ina TV
I looked at rear screen, wall projection and the limitation of the viewability forced me to stick with CRT XBR tubes... it just made sense.
I STILL sit there after a DVD has started and say to myself.... ahhaha this is awesome!
I cannot remmeber the difference in pricing from the 32 to 36 then, but it was signifigant, but the difference in visual presentaiton didn't equate, I think it was a matter of being the top end of that model, so I could have saved the 3 or 4 bills and got the 32 and would have been just as happy I think, and it would have been 50 pounds less I speculate.
There is nothing like having 2 15's, 8 5 inch mids, 2 8inch yamaha surrounds throwing sci fi into your brain in DTS DOLBY 5.1 surround, screw the theatre, Im staying home =)
StarGate 08-26-2002, 05:45 AM Can't we talk about GIRLS instead?
Maybe 32" breast size and any (not nessecarily DOLBY) SURROUND experiences ... hehe they even still work on power failure ain't that the greatest? :D
I3 Optic 08-26-2002, 06:03 AM I need to overclock my brain to understand all this.
KLH's, JBL? ..eh, I think this is where I get my coat.

I see exactly what you mean, nobody can understand what its like without actually going out and buying it.
I just thought id go for it after standing hesitant for 15 minutes thinking about the cost, then i just thought "hell its only money" :D
ill never turn back (unless a physically loose my job and become useless, in which case id be forced to quit such an expensive hobby!)
BiGWill 08-26-2002, 07:39 AM you guys may have the biggest TV's and so on.

Toons 08-26-2002, 08:35 AM Hiya,
Although lacking slightly in the Hi-Fi department (A Technics Hifi/DVD System, 5 speaker surround sound etc), I am rather proud of my Tv.
50" Toshiba Widescreen.
Not sure of the exact model but this is pretty close.

Soulfish 08-26-2002, 03:07 PM Well since everybody else is posting their TV specs thought I'd show you all mine :)
Just got this setup a couple of weeks ago and boy does the floor shake while playing the LOTR dvd :D
Anyway Tv is a Samsung Tantus Rear Projection LCD 43" Tv, Speakers are Kef Q Series (combination of Q1's Q3's and Q9c), DVD is a Onkyo S555 and the Amp a Onkyo TX-SR600E.
Anyway click here (http://www.soulfish.net/speaker.jpg) to have a look at it in all its glory.
