View Full Version : CHEAPEST bandwidth DEDI packages
UH-Matt 08-24-2002, 08:13 AM Im not posting this in the requests forum because im not yet looking to purchase.. BUT.. im interested to find out the absolute CHEAPEST place to get HIGH bandwidth dedicated or shared hosting.
Something like a dedicated cogent...
Post the cheapest places you have found here :)
No setup fee would be a bonus. :)
CirKit 08-24-2002, 10:56 AM Take a look at www.serveroutsource.net. $99 dedicated includes 400 GB transfer, and overage is $0.50/GB.
alain 08-24-2002, 02:38 PM ... and very good customer support.
beashnet 08-24-2002, 03:06 PM Then there's FDCServers.net, Edge-Host and RackShack. The latter two offer 400-600GB for $99-129/month and FDCServers I believe offer unmetered for somewhere around $100/mo. All three are Cogent.
RackMy.com 08-24-2002, 03:07 PM I have 2 Mbps Cable Modem line any I can rent you my desktop for $29.99 :)

I used to have a low end server :) it was excellent :P
UH-Matt 08-24-2002, 03:52 PM Anyone know of any european companies which do deals like this ? pings to US for me are terrible ;(
Tazzman 08-24-2002, 04:11 PM pings to US for me are terrible ;(Where exactly in the EU do you live? I was pinging my server at serhost at 94 ms yesterday from Rotterdam, which is about the fastest transatlantic ping I've ever seen :)
They keep their servers at 56marietta in Atlanta.
UH-Matt 08-24-2002, 04:31 PM about 30 minutes north of london. I ping 120ish to the USA... i already have a US server and when i get my second i was just thinking of trying to get somewhere in europe. Bandwidth seems almost as cheap in the netherlands so i dont see why there arent companies doing similar deals that rackshack / FDCSServers etc.. all do.

what kind of connection do you have?
depending on the location of your server in the US, it could be a modem or a faster line (e.g. DSL, Cable)

hahah dream on! bandwidth prices are still much higher here in europe. ok, i've seen some deals quoting 99cent per gb on colo ... but that was all. and there's nothing lower than that, no cogent in europe :/
greets,
UH-Matt 08-24-2002, 08:28 PM Where is the cheapest you have seen.. im looking for the most affordable european dedicated with around 100gb now.. ive decided i definitely want my second box in europe.

I have 1 Mbps cable, up ;) A whole rack for $99.99! It'll of course lag when i send something.. ;)
Try Atrivo, they offer:
500gb transfer, AMD XP 1700, 40GB HD, 512MB ram, Red hat 7.3, and your choice of Plesk Unlimited or Ensim Unlimited.
For $99 setup and $99/month.
I've ordered mine and i'm getting it on monday, from what I hear they are excellent.
UH-Matt 08-25-2002, 06:19 AM Do Atrivo have a website ?
mdrussell 08-25-2002, 06:35 AM Pay the premium for decent quality bandwidth. I would be very wary of a datacenter with solely Cogent connections...
UH-Matt 08-25-2002, 06:41 AM IF i was hosting customer sites on it then i would pay for good bandwidth, but this server is to test some gameserver solutions on, hence the need for it in europe, and a reasonable price incase the service doesnt take off.
mdrussell 08-25-2002, 06:43 AM Ok, I can understand Europe for decent pings to the UK.
Cogent definately isn't fast enough for gameservers though.
UH-Matt 08-25-2002, 06:48 AM agreed
c9biz 08-25-2002, 07:41 AM the cheapest bandwidth is in china. no limits whatsoever. i've seen ppl use quite a few TBs per month, us$200 or so.
UH-Matt 08-25-2002, 08:10 AM If only i could read there websites :)

2u, p4 1.8ghz, 1gb ram, 40gb hdd, 100mbps shared bandwidth unmetered transfer, u own the server after 2 years, us$2500/year
i think most companies in china give u the hardware after 1 or 2 years now
BiGWill 08-25-2002, 08:44 PM well, depends on the ammount of servers who share that 100mbit connection ... but if it would come down to 20 that'd be a good price (208$/month). (if you can really push 10mbit constantly of such a network?!)
greets,
alain 08-25-2002, 10:04 PM 20% packet loss and 400ms ping from my location...
porcupine 08-25-2002, 10:53 PM and a host that might run away with your $2500 halfway through the first month? :D

20% packet loss and 400ms ping from my location... ahh, i know why now, the link between china & us is puny :D
guess that's 1 less option... maybe russia does better? :D
alain 08-26-2002, 07:46 AM russia is REALLY better than China from Europe... but you might not even think about it if you are just a little serious
