I searched the forum for a long time trying to find out why people have been saying bad things about godaddy, but nothing conclusive came up. I want to transfer all my domains from dreamhost to godaddy, but after reading people's bad comments about godaddy, I don't know what to do.

All I want is to put my 4 domains (for my personal websites. i also have a few subdomains if this matters) onto a registrar so I can have less trouble when transferring hosts (from dreamhost to downtown host).

Is godaddy good for this? Or is there something better for me? I'm sorry if this is a dumb question, but I can't find any real evidence on here as to why I shouldn't use godaddy.

Thanks

I have been using godaddy for few of my personal domains for more than 7 years now, never had a problem, though there are some better options too in terms of pricing etc, but I never bothered to move those domains away.

Godaddy/Wild West get the most complaints because they are the biggest registrar with over 27% market share. Enom is way behind and #2 at 9%. Complaints in this forum mainly focus on 1) Godday's 60 day rule (can't transfer out within 60 days of revising your WHOIS info) and 2) Godaddy's quickness to freeze domains based on complaints about spamming, copyright infringement etc...
All registrars get complaints about support.

Great! Thanks for clearing it up for me.

I suppose this is fine for me then. My sites host no copyrighted files, adult material or illegal material so I guess I'm fine.

If u need some simple and reliable, easy to understand, go to dynadot.com or namecheap.com , godadd interface is very "cluttered"

Godaddy is fine for retail domain name registration. If you have a few domains names, you can always move them there. It is good for new registrations as well. I thin kthye also have a wholesale domain registar Wild Wild West or something.

I don't like GoDaddy because I saw some cases where they "stole" their customer's domain, or gave it to somebody else.

For exemple, if somebody yells on them saying your contact info is wrong with no proof they will only email you, and if on that time your email is unavailable or you don't see it in a few days, they will sell your domain do the complainer.

Actually, it's more as following. At least GoDaddy and NameCheap don't allow the customers to port-out any domain when the registrant/admin changed) only starting 60 days after the change was last made. Updating the whois record other than the registrant/admin names do not affect in any way at all. Better review their TOS/AUP.

ALL registrars must abide by ICANN rules regarding inaccurate WHOIS and act on complaints submitted through http://wdprs.internic.net/
Registrars, including Godaddy, do not sell domains to complainers but do freeze or cancel domains if they get no response from the listed registrant.

ORLY? :stickout:

On my understanding, a registrar is paid, by its customers, to keep their domains safe. And not to delete them or sell them to anybody else. :o

That's just MHO :stickout: And anyway, on that case whois info was not even wrong

Iam using godaddy for 2 years with no problems the only thing that may annoy you is their support but you won't need it.
