Hi Guys

Just wondering if any of you can shed any light on this for me.

I use AOL (no flames please) I am going to University next month where my laptop will be connected to their network.
AOL has an option to connect via tcp/ip on an already established internet connection.
I asked the uni if i would be able to do this, first they said yes, then they said no and now they say they don't know because it has never been tried, it is possible that ports aol use could be blocked by the firewall!
I asked AOL what ports they use and they came back with "sorry we don't provide support for tcp/ip becuase networks differ so much"

I am in the UK, can anyone shed some light onto this, ie whether you think it will be possible or not?

Thanks in advance

Yes, that will work. Assuming their firewall doesnt block the ports AOL wants to use. I think they use ports 5190-5193.

The university probably has shut down things like port 21 and 80 to prevent you from running your own webserver/ftp server, but they shoudlnt have 5190-5193. Someone there should know what ports are open for use.
