OK, can someone please confirm if I'm going crazy or if eNom is going crazy :stickout:

We have 2 name name servers registered to the same IP address:

ns1.xxx.yyy 1.2.3.4
ns3.xxx.yyy 1.2.3.4

This has been setup and working for years with eNom.

Today I went to go change the IP addresses and suddenly eNom throws an error. eNom support tells tells me that 2 name servers within the same zone can't have the same IP. Is this true (I did not think so) or is it just an eNom restirction.

TIA

Technically I believe that you CAN have two name servers on one IP address, though I'm not sure if the RFC restricts it or not, but I doubt it. It probably just warns you.

Any reason why you don't just use ns1 and ns2, because essentially ns3 really doesn't matter at this point because its on the same box anyway?

That is very weird, even weirder is the fact you did the same IP for your name servers.

Maybe try adding a new one in your server first and after then goahead and add it to enom...

it's just old stuff that was consolidated. There is:

ns1.xxx.yyy and ns3.xxx.yyy on 1.2.3.4

and

ns2.xxx.yyy and ns4.xxx.yyy on 5.6.7.8

At one time (ages ago) ns3 and ns4 were on different servers, ip's etc. but due to consolidations etc ns1 and n3 were merged and ns2 and ns4 were marged. It's difficult to know who is still using the ns3/ns4 name servers so we just kept them around.
