Yep. DNS again. Unbelievable. Considering I specifically asked them about their DNS stability before signing up.

I never cancelled with my other host and I'm thinking of switching back. It's been touch and go the past two weeks at Hostpacket with uptime. Good for a cheap host if you want some dev space, but not so good if you want to run a site.

Domain is working now. The IP was always good.

Like I said, it's been great for dev stuff, but when it comes to needing a site that's up all the time, I just don't know ... my last two weeks have been less than great.

thanks for the comments. i was considering them for my new site, but i think i might go with my current host now. i don't want my new site going up and down like a yo-yo.

If you'd like to ask me again in one more week, I'll let you know how things shape up. On their board, they've announced that they are adding a machine to handle the overloaded domains come Monday. So they say they are addressing the problem.

overloaded server does not sound too tempting i must admit! why do some hosts overload their servers? usually because their too greedy.

A server that's nowhere near capacity can be overloaded by lack of proper management on the part of the admin. Could be a bunch of things. It's not always the host being greedy. :)

Posted on the HostPacket.net forums: Server# 2 is almost full with 190 domainsIt also seems like Apache constantly "fails" on their servers, which has been another reason for all their downtime.

We was alarmed 1 minute after Apache failed on # 2, it takes another few minutes to debug the conf file and restart Apache probably, it was maximum 10 minutes only

looks like the thread starter is frauder and just want to attack us, Apache failed won't affect any clients on main server at all, I've seem other hosts down for over 24 hours and start getting complain, not for less than 10 minutes :mad:

Considering all your downtime so far this month and considering 99.9% uptime "guarantee" allows 40 minutes of downtime a MONTH (not a day) I'd suggest you stop pointing the fingure at people who are posting the truth and start spending more time managing your servers.

1. A webhost that delivers what they promise.
2. A webhost that freely admits to its mistakes & problems.

plus its inaccurate and cannot connect to Time Warner during our provider problem (same as InternetSeer), it's unprofessional to show our stats that show inaccurate/incorrect data

alertra.com show our uptime is 98.96% and absolute e-business monitor show our uptime is 98.22%

If they can't connect to you during your "provider problems" that's a fair indication of overall network performance - you can't just take the good and dismiss the bad.

Whilst EasyMonitor is free and only checks every 15 minutes this no doubt means it misses some downtime as well.

98.96% = 7.74 Hours downtime for August 2002
98.22% = 13.25 Hours downtime for August 2002

99.9% is advertised (45 minutes - TOTAL)

Give the guys at Hostpacket a chance, I am sure they will get it right eventually. Remember that they haven't been around for too long so there's a lot for them to learn. As a client I still have faith in them.
