What is one of the better OpenSRS / Tucows resellers out there?

I'm looking for one that I can register domains through and have a username and password for each domain so that I don't have to worry if the reseller goes under... I could just go to manage.opensrs.net and login and change the domain information.

I do that now with a reseller, but their domain registration fee is kinda high. I'm looking for a reseller that has domains for under $20/year, has been around a while and is known for being reliable, etc.

TIA

I'd suggest www.000domains.com.

Looks good! Anyone else have any recommendations?

Also, if the OpenSRS / Tucows reseller I use goes under or their site becomes unaccessable, can I go to http://manage.opensrs.net and modify my domain information also?

I don't think you have to worry too much about 000domains going away. They have been around quite a while.

OTOH, I've just transferred my last 3 domains away from them to my own eNom reseller account. That is aobut 1/2 the price of 000domains.

I guess we do have an active member here who is also an Open SRS reseller:

http://www.myostrich.net (thewitt)

Frankly, I neither know him personally nor has used his service but he has been around for quite a while and posted some no-nonsense comments regarding domain names. Worth give him a try :-)

Before you use an OpenSRS reseller, be sure they will let you use the public manage interface for your domains at manage.opensrs.net. More and more resellers are putting a front end on the domain manager to offer other features to their customers - and that seems to include capturing their username and password and using something else at OpenSRS on the customer's behalf. There is nothing in the OpenSRS RSP agreement that prohibits this, and as long as the RSP is prepared to turn over the password to the customer when/if they actually need it, they can do this. It would make me nervous if I were the end customer however.

Also, a number of OpenSRS resellers are becoming ICANN accredited, and you may actually be registering a domain in their new, private registration system and not at OpenSRS at all. One of the resellers mentioned in this thread is currently ICANN accredited and working on their own system for domain registration. I'm not sure how far along they are, but as I understand it they have licensed the registrar end of things (I forget what this is called right now...), so they will continue to be able to use the domain registration code and just point it at their own services.

Just be sure to ask first if you can use the vanilla public manage interface - don't assume.

I've had that problem in the past, where the OpenSRS reseller didn't give the username/password to access the domain name because they use other domain registrars alongside OpenSRS, which I didn't know about. But now... I've got my own OpenSRS reseller account which makes managing my own personal domain names much easier.

Also, if the OpenSRS / Tucows reseller I use goes under or their site becomes unaccessable, can I go to http://manage.opensrs.net and modify my domain information also?Sure... you'r free to use either the resellers 'manage' interface or the central one at OpenSRS' own website.
