If there is the person should probably write a book than give it away. ;)

Seriously, the aspects of providing hosting service are just a fraction of the business. The rest is typical business stuff - marketing/promo, accounting, finance, customer service etc.

Hello
I originally trained in marketing and I think the biggest problem for anyone setting up a web hosting business is the quantity of other comapanies already in the market.

Here's a story (Its called "Kobler's egg after the psychologist):

Kobler was frying some eggs one day and noticed that all of them had similar shaped Yokes but vastly varying outer whites.
He realised that businesses are the same.
Often they have very similar products with not much to differentiate them.

Most web hosting companies provide the same core services.
What will make your host stand out?

Its something worth pondering on and it will depend on exactly what market you are wanting to target.
Its this area of product definition which will make the difference between success and failure.

I have gone the multiple branding route, competing against myself to get more market exposure and allow me to operate in differnt niche markets with the same hardware infrastructure.

Gordon, thanks a lot for that !
I have a question, if I may ask....Could you honestly tell me how many signups you are getting a day? and how did you market yourself at first to get known in the industry? Did you have to spend a huge amount of money at the start just for promotion and search engine submissions??
How many signups can I expect to get per month the first, let's say 3 months???
I have a website that gets around 2000 visitors per day, where I will advertise my new hosting company...I guess this will help, although the general audience is music fans, not so much business...
Thanks !

Hello
Not sure what my average is but its usually at least 3 per day and its been as high as 12.
However, we also sell domains and do other things that bring in money so we don't totally rely on web hosting sign ups.

I have spent very little on advertising.
I get lots of free advertising through our free hosting service. I buy $20 of banner ads per month from iBoost.
Also do about $50 on Google adwords.

Most of our customers are refered by a friend and to encourage that we give the referrer a free month of their own hosting.
Because we have our own servers this does not really cost us anything and it helps build loyalty.

The answer - or one of the them - to your question is http://www.recellar.com/. Anyway, it's a great site to visit a couple of times before you start reselling :)
