Thinking of installing Nutsmail, but want to know if it's just a theme (like, say, RVSkin) or if it entirely replaces the default squirrelmail installation with its own?

And, if the latter, is it worth the trouble and how does one handle updates to squirrelmail? Is that automatic, like the way cPanel handles it or would I have to do it manually?

It is more of a theme, definitely not a replacement for default installation.

It's a bit of both... it's a nice looking theme, but it also comes bundled with tons of plugins that the default SquirrelMail lacks. If you were to install NutsMail, you would have to manually update the software yourself and also set certain permissions on the directory to prevent cPanel from overwriting it.

(It would be nice if cPanel licensed the software to replace SquirrelMail, that way updates could get pushed down properly and save everyone a lot of trouble...)

Thank you, boonchuan and PatH.

PatH, I also noticed your tutorial about installing NutsMail. Many thanks for that. Have your customers liked the enhanced squirrelmail?

If Cpanel or other controlpanels really integrate Nutsmail, that would be lovely, Nutsmail really transform a very normal Webmail into a very lovely and useful one.

I'm not sure to be honest, very rarely do you hear customers comment on how nice (any) software is... only when it breaks will you hear something! It's definitely a step up from the default SquirrelMail, so I would imagine they like it. :)

Personally, I'd like to see something done with Horde in regards to what NutsMail did with SquirrelMail. Horde has more of a professional (corporate) feel to it, while SquirrelMail is just a cheap "no frills" webmail client. Even with NutsMail replacing SquirrelMail, all it comes down to is a pretty interface with a handful of half-assed plug-ins... nothing spectacular, to be frank. :(
