View Full Version : whois privacy
shmay 05-11-2008, 06:25 PM I'm looking for a cheap web host with whois privacy. It's not for porn or anything bad, but I just don't want my info out there.
It's just an info site, so I don't need a lot of space. Any help? Thank you.
Daniel_G 05-11-2008, 06:50 PM DreamHost give you free whois privacy when you register a domain with them, which is also free if you take a web hosting plan with them.
Energizer Bunny 05-11-2008, 07:04 PM Just a wiser choice would be just go with namecheap.com for domains and they have free privacy thingy, and renewal is darn cheap too for the same every year. This way you will be in control of your domain and not your hosting company !!
cheers
markjut 05-11-2008, 07:30 PM Most big domain registrars offer that, try godaddy or namecheap etc and that will either be included or for a small extra cost
hosteur 05-11-2008, 07:31 PM Host who use Directi aka resellerclub does offer this...
TonyB 05-11-2008, 07:52 PM I would like others recommend doing the domain elsewhere. I know namecheap offers privacy protection free of charge. Others such as godaddy charge a fee to have whois protection.
Now if you really wanted to have the domain with the host as well as someone else suggested Directi does offer it for free so any host using them can offer it free to you as well.
ephasenetworks 05-11-2008, 10:21 PM I would recommend namecheap.
I would recommend name.com
Very cheap and you get for free WhoIS privacy
Tim Greer 05-12-2008, 04:14 AM I agree, worry more about the domain registrar used, rather than the web host. Some offer domain sales, and can offer it at reasonable prices, along with privacy options, but it's all about the price and registrar anyway. You needn't involve the host in the domain or the options with it.
NameCheap offers it for free for a year, while resellers of Directi offers it as long as your domain is registered with them. ;)
ldcdc 05-12-2008, 05:49 AM Just a wiser choice would be just go with namecheap.com for domains and they have free privacy thingyI second the recommendation, but it must be noted that the free whois privacy thing is for the first year only.
iastaff 05-12-2008, 06:08 AM Wow, I don't see many requests for this kind of service on this forum. It almost seems taboo for that request to be seen here.

For those who are not aware of it, DreamHost has been an ICANN-accredited registrar for quite a LONG while. And from my first hand experience, they are run by some honest people.

Who have no phone contact available....
3DProf4online 05-13-2008, 01:45 AM I'm looking for a cheap web host with whois privacy. Whois guard protection is used for domains not for hosts. Just find a good registrar for domain, which offers Whois guard protection for a domain. You can choose a hosting provider you desire.
SoFiMaN 05-13-2008, 05:28 AM Name.com offers it, with realy cheap prices

Name.com is very poor of information. How can I find pricing information?
Skinzeeteam 05-15-2008, 12:38 PM godaddy and most others offer this for a $5 or so. but it looks like namecheap does it free

Yep, dreamhost won't hold your domain hostage if you cancel webhosting with them.

For hosting, they (DreamHost) even refund any unused portion of your payment made unfront. That's also the reason why I still have a couple of accounts with them after all these years (actually since 1999).
CyberMew 05-17-2008, 07:02 AM i would have went with dreamhost but i couldnt sign up for a domain with them because someone else had problems with it, which is retarded.
"The domain has been disabled in our system previously, and cannot be
hosted here again, I'm afraid."
