View Full Version : Automated Scripts for adding a site and user

Hi,

Does anyone know where i can get a script where i can have a form on the web site, and people can fill it in, obviously to sign up for web hosting, and they can specify there username and password and domain name, and when they submit it, it sets it up on the server and perhaps even does the DNS entries, but it would be ok to have to do that manually.

If anyone has any dieas where i could get a script like this from i would be very greatful!

Also, does anyone have any other scripts that automate things on the RaQ???? I would like to try to automate things to make life easier.

Any help much appreciated!

I would LOVE a script that does automatic signup and billing.

Maybe we should all put our minds together and make one!!

Great idea! There is already a script for the raq(3) that allows automatic signup. (it's working with a cron-script). I've got the url somewhere. I'll look for it and when I've got it I'll post it here. But though I would like to make scripts that allows us all things what the siteadmin can do but throw shell. (I don't mean Jeffs shelltools).

What a good idea, if we could all get together tp make a script like this!!!

Starhost, when you find that link i will go straight to it as it sounds brilliant! Do you know what it may have been called, or who it was by?

I will ask about other people and see what scripts they have.

I know CGI/Perl at an intermediate level but not well enough to make a script for the Raq. I'm an expert web designer as well.

This script would be SO cool - and making it open-source would let people make it even better with new features added all the time.

Anyone up for it?

PS. I found this automatic signup script http://www.m2soft.com/~mjehlenz/signup.html but hey - lets make something thats REALLY cool and has all the features of a pro system.

I'm sure if everyone helped, such as programmers, designers, site architects, interface experts etc.. we could end of with something that would be of tremondous help to the Raq community in general :)

I talked to the makers of the scripts on the Cobalt Mailing list and it isnt for sale, they wont even give it away

We have a script for both the raq3-4 that we usually sell for about $100 to our dedicated customers, it basically puts everything on one page in terms of dns etc...instead of 5-6 windows...

What I'm more or less interested in is removing options. Take the site backup option for instance. I'd prefer not to have users sucking up bandwidth by making a fresh backup each day. How would I go about removing a button?

Hi,

I am interested in a script that can add users to a domain, so that I could give out free e-mail with automatic sign up.

Anyone know if such a script exists for the RAQ4i?

thanks

Why not write our own scripts? I mean if someone write a backend script I can build a frontend in php/mysql. Ofcourse I'll build it so, that we can all change the layout of it :-)

I thought there was a freebie system called WebMin or s'thing that does this kinda stuff??

I Just wondered over to http://www.hotscripts.com.

There are a couple on the site WebMin & UnixAdmin are both free scripts that can add/delete/modify users. This, if nothing else, would be a start?

I have a complete automatic sign up system, which works with that cron script that the link above has. The frontend checks the referrer etc..

But I paid quite a bit for it, and I cant just give it away.

But I'd be happy to help in building a new system...

Thanks,

I have a script that I wrote in PHP that takes the user input and sets up the web site, adds the DNS information, sets up a mysql database if they want one and stores all the there data in a customer database. It also sends them email to let them know what there IP address is and that they have been set up. It only takes a new customer about 5 min to be up and running. This program requires php compiled as a cgi.

If you are interested contact me off this list.

I recall it requiring some shell tools that needed to be installed. If you have Updated to OS4 they were installed with that update, if not there was an ftp address to get them.
I'm not positive on this, but I believe that they can be found at this address ftp://ftp.cobaltnet.com/pub/users/jeffb/shell-tools/

I do know that the scripts required php to be installed.

I know that the developer did have a Raq3, but that's about it.

Hope that helps.

I have installed this about a month ago and have been using it every since.

You will need to create a /tmp/setup directory and change some of the paths in the accountcreate.pl and in the addrecords.pl script to match your paths of your cadduser, caddvsite, etc. All of the cadd programs can be found or added in the /usr/sbin/

Last but not least you need to create a path to /home/setupsystem/ and move the currentuserid to it.

If you need further help well email me and I can see if I can help you. I have modified the script to do a few other things as well.

My next modification is to attemp to make the script create an account on another server as my current server is almost full.

Domenico
03-21-2001, 07:55 PM
Can you please explain what the script does exactly step by step?

I mean what happens after someone makes the order?
What is being made and stuff...

thank you ;-)

tymonhall
03-21-2001, 08:50 PM
Sure, I am on my way out the door so if this don't help then let me know.

once the user hits the submit button, the order.php script writes data to /tmp/setup/userdata. When your cronjob processes the /etc/cron.quarter-hourly/createaccount.pl it setup the account and creates a user name that starts with an "a" for the customer, then it emails the customer, you, domain registration (you can disable this part) with the info each person needs, you can modify the script to send what ever info you would like. Then it writes data to a new file called /tmp/setup/records this file waits another 15 minutes where the /etc/cron.quarter-hourly/addrecords.pl is ran and then adds the dns records to the site. Once that is complet then all is done.

Note: you can see the account in your admin control panel once the account has been created you don't have to wait for the dns records to update.

Hope this is helps

I just found out that the site that had the script is no longer there. There is a place on cobalts web to download the cadd programs. Unless someone here knows where you can find it your going to have to look for it yourself. If I find it when I get to work I will post a url for it I have a copy somewhere.

The scripts I would say you should place them in your cron.quarter-hourly for the perl scripts the signup scripts you can place them any where you like.

I guess you'll have to do like hostrocket.com and require a valid credit card number in order to process the form successfully.

03-23-2001, 05:41 PM
Hi,

The only problem with this is people think its cool to use your signup form as a place to test their fake credit cards to see if they work or not :( Address verification built in to your card processing is a must for this kinda setup.

tymonhall
03-23-2001, 09:06 PM
Are you using a online cc processor or is it just validating that credit card should be real?

brandonk
03-24-2001, 12:43 PM
This is what I've done to protect myself from fake orders...

I use Instabill.com to charge my clients, so they enter in their info, etc...and if it's correct they're transferred to my sign up script. I'm not using the php script that was on that site (I paid to have one made)...This is how it works:

http://url/order.cgi?order=success&package=Pack1

When the user is redirected to this URL, order.cgi validates that they were reffered by secure.instabill.com. (no you can't just type secure.instabill.com and then the URL, secure.instabill.com must actually LINK to the script for them to be considered a referrer).

If the referrer IS instabill.com, then the users IP address is added to /allowed. If it's not instabill, it's not added.

(the above happened in less than a second and isn't noticeable)

Then their asked to fill in all their information about the domain.

This information is submitted to process.cgi...which:

Validates the users IP with an IP in /allowed, if it finds it, it adds the information to the userdata file, if it doesn't, then it emails sales@webxonline.com, informs them of an Order: Bad IP address....it gives instructions on adding this manually.. and it tells the user that their credentials couldn't be verified.

So WHY add their IP to /allowed? Because I was afraid that their computer may possibly crash etc..and they wouldn't be able to complete the order (in which case I give them the order.cgi url and it processes because their IP is saved)...OR people get to the order.cgi, and keep hitting submit and back (setting up tons of domains)...

I paid a programming fee of $90/hour for the above scripts, so truthfully, I cannot afford to give them away. If you are interested in these front end scripts you can email me..NOTE: The backend script is not mine, it's the createaccount.pl that everyone else is using (with some modified security patches)..

I WILL SAY: My clients have been EXTREMELY happy with having their site "Setup within 15 minutes!" It has also taken alot of load off, from adding sites. It's one of the best investments I've ever made!

Thanks,
Brandon :)

brandonk
03-24-2001, 12:48 PM
I forgot to add, that after the script adds the setup information to userdata, their IP address is REMOVED from /allowed.

Tymonhall: As far as other servers go...this is my problem now too. I know that I can just move the order scripts to the new server, but what about DNS? Do you have a solution? I'd be happy to work on this with you. I've spoken to a programmer, who can get the job done in about 2 hours...but that's at $90/hour (something I'd like to avoid). He would make the script send the DNS info, via secure FTP to the other server (which hosts the DNS).

What ideas do you have as far as this goes?

Brandon@webxonline.com

Thanks,
Brandon :)

What I had thought about was haveing the script create the user account on server A and then take all the user information that it needs from server A and ftp it to server B onces every 15 minutes. The script will still create the account and send the user thier login info with in the first 15 minutes but I don't really create the account for another 15 to 30 minutes.

I havent had the time to sit down and map this out in detail but that is a breif over view. Let me know what you think. It shouldn't be that hard to create the script even for me a none perl programmer. :-)

Brandon,
You Use 4webspace.Com for your server ? Right ? I use them as well & they dont allow you to Run DNS on your server ! So how do you use the script to add DNS entries for your clients . Even If You Use the Co-Branded Nameservers how do you make DNS entries instantly for your clients ????
I would Like to Use the Automatic Signup Script But the main problem for me is use of automatic DNS entries !!
Please Explain Me !

About the fake order thing... I did some looking around and I found a script:

http://www.hotscripts.com/Detailed/2812.html

It's a free script that looks at the referer and it it matches what you want it to then it directs the user to another script. Shouldn't be too difficult to modify the automatic signup system to include this code to see if they are coming from your payment gateway.

Im going to mess around a bit, if I come up with anything I'll let you know.

koolguru,

Email noc@tera-byte.com and request information on how you can use your own DNS. They will allow you to, but you need to tell them you'll keep your server patched and up to date, you won't hold them responsible for any DNS related issues, etc...

Evan,

I'm not sure why you want the email address of my programmer. He is no allowed to hand out these scripts, I own them, not him. If you want to drop me a line, we can discuss it further. Brandon@webxonline.com

Tymonhall,

I did exactly what you described above. The createaccount.pl, goes through setting up the account the server, and then FTP's a dns file to the DNS server. The DNS server process the dns file and adds the records to the DNS server. If you think about it, createaccount.pl creates the account within 15 minutes, and the dns is up within a half an hour. So we're talking 30 min setup time. But in reality, no one can change their DNS within 30 mins...so it's really still 15 min setup.

Thanks,
Brandon@webxonline.com :)

tymonhall
03-26-2001, 09:25 PM
Right, but I read somewhere if you wanted you can add the createaccount.pl and the addrecords.pl script together just by pasting the addrecords.pl script at the bottom of the createaccount.pl script. If that don't work then you can have the createaccount.pl script call the addrecords.pl script.

What I was looking at with the ftp thing is that the script would write everything to a file and then ftp it up to another server and on the other server it will run a creataccount.pl type of script that just addes the domain info. I don't think this would be too complicated. Right now I am working on two project along with learning more on php. I am hoping that I will have this project complete by the end of the week but I am mainly waiting on TB to get more servers.

I already have createaccount.pl and addrecords.pl together, but with two servers you can't really do that. Server A (DNS server), and Server B (server with accounts). Server B has the customized createaccount.pl that FTP's the dns file to server A for processing. So client orders account on server B, within 15 minutes, createaccount.pl is run and the dns file is uploaded to server A. Then within another 15 minutes, addrecords.pl on server A is run, and it processes the DNS file. That's what I have them setup to do, I should have another RaQ on today, and I'll be testing it... I'll let you know how it works.

Thanks,
Brandon

The way that you are explaining it should work. But I was looking at Server A (process dns, sends messages, create new file to write the account creation info such as domain, user info, etc, starts ftp to server B) and Server B (creates the domain and creates the users script) thats it.

This way all the process is done on server A because I have the secure server certs on A and just the users info in sent to B.

Chances are, perl does not exist where it says it should. You can fix this by either making a symbolic link, or simply changing the path to the correct perl binary.

No problem. :)

Also, I would like to alert all hosts who are running that setup system. There is an EXTREMELY dangerous bug in it if you haven't fixed it already. Since the bug is mostly involved in how the frontend works (which is different for each host), I cannot post it on BugTraq. Despite this, it is very important that hosts are aware of it because I have a feeling there are some hosts who did not fix this.

If you are a host running this script, please e-mail me at vince@jtan.com and I'll inform you about it. The reason I am doing it this way is to give hosts who run the script a head start in fixing it before the kiddies reek havoc.

I am in great need of an automated signup script. Entering 50-75 sites per day by hand is getting very annoying. :)

Since I know nothing about programming, can someone give me a ballpark estimate of what such a script would cost? All my hosting is name-based, either domain.com or theirname.mysite.com. I'm currently running off a RaQ3.

Now only if there was a solution that cost that much and did the same thing on windows 2000 in Cold Fusion or PHP would be really great :)

Does this software automate billing?

nexzt
05-03-2001, 03:48 PM
no, but it wouldn't be hard to get a billing system and to implement it.

I'm using a modified version of CBMS which charges the creditcard as well as does billing automaticly. I am still adding a few features that I have seen in the software that cost 100's of dollars

If anyone is interested I have modified the scripts from CBMS, that auto signup script, and a few other scripts put them them together and now I get automatic credit card processing, automatic invoicing of customer, automatic account creations and a few other things.

Soon I will have it create mysql databases on the fly. I should have that done by the end of next week.

I am still working on improving it but if anyone is interested in getting a copy then let me know. I'm not sure how I can strip all my clients out but I would be willing to figure it out.

Did you modify it with the $50 program mentioned earlier in the thread? If so I would be interested, I just bought a copy of it but I haven't had a chance to test it out yet.

Mike

You could all join together and hire a programmer (me for example) to create the backend (and maybe the frontend too). If you teamed up, the costs wouldn't be that high.

I actully tweaked it myself, added it to my own client system that i developed so now it signs them up and sends them to the right server then that server automaticly creates/deletes them from the server, everything is controled frommy client system that i developed. and so far its working great. think its going to go live for my company on monday :)

Ahem,

And what if these programs have some bugs and forget to send out invoices and stuff?

Who tested this software?

I check my customers at random to make sure they are getting billed. But the problem is with any software you may have bugs or some sort of glitch in it. You need to know how to fix the glitch yourself or have someone who can.

I created my own to do that, i just needed to know the syntax of the cobalt raq files to add vsites and users ect. and then i coded it myself into my client system. and it works.

You need the scripts that were given in the beginning of this topic. If you need a copy of them email me and I will send you a copy of it.

I need to know if anyone knows what programs you may need to updated a user information like

Change password
Change name
Add Auto Responce
Update Domain info like IP address, Add CGI/PHP etc

If I new the commands from the command prompt then I thinK I would be in business with recreating the cobalt GUI all together. If that stuff is in a text file someone I would like to know which text files they are left in.

If anyone would like a copy of this email me directly and I will give it to them.

If you need help with setting it up then email me as well and we can talk about that.

Currently I have the script setup to take orders and automaticly setup an account. It setup with "link point/Card Sevice International" as a credit card processor, It will send enom an email request to signup a new domain, and send me a note that a new user has signup.

I have it also setup to charge the customers credit card on the day that they are due for the amount they owe.

If you have any other questions you can email me them.

I just wonder how these set up scripts work once the server is filled up?

Omair Haroon
09-02-2001, 11:45 AM
What do you mean fill up ?

Fill up in the sense of 200 sites or Space ??

I think it would give some sort of error or what ??

And, Chicken do you have a RaQ ?? Because you know a hell lot about RaQs.. Do you own one now ?? if yes which one and from where ??

Mine switches to another server after 150 sites on the server.. I can always force it to add to a specific server too.. the northwest host script doesn't...

Ahhhh, that's what I was wondering. have to keep that in mind, thankx. Ohhhhh and Omair, yes I own a RaQ3, and lease a 4r from tera-byte (4webspace actually if you want to get technical).

Hello Derrick,

Is it possible for you upload all the collection of script so that all of the raq users can be benefited from it ??

I request you to do so..

Also, does anyone else have a automatic signup script that they would like to share ?? (mod if you feel that this should be in another new thread, feel free to do so.. :))

Thanks,
Omair Haroon

Chicken : Can I have your ICQ Number ?? Please.. I would be a pleasure for me to ask you some question when I would have any problems with my raq.. :)

I have just bought a script that works wonders for seting up users on a raq,
I'm suprised that none of you have seen it on this forum, have a look at http://autosetup.northwesthost.com it's great and the programmer was very helpfull when I set it up. He even offered to see why it wasn't working when I had not set it up as I should have.

Hello Haisoft,

I am using it already.. But I think it lacks few features and it is confusing a bit too..

The feature lacking is:
E-mail Features (I mean emailing users at the end of the month to pay for the package they have signed up for). If I get this feature I won't need anything else.. This would be a pefect package.. (rkurth.. can you do it for me.. please.. please.. please...)

My version does do this, in the menu, I've got "Send Bill Reminder " on which I can choose how often and on what date it sends a reminder bill. Ok it's not set up automaticaly but it shouldn't be hard to do so,

If you ask I can tell you how to use it. It is in all versions of Autoseup.

Just email me with any Questions on how to use it.

It will send a email to your customer on any day you what with whatever message you want.

And a new version will be out soon that does so much more. And all my customers will get the new version of Autosetup Pro.
