View Full Version : Advertising Web Hosting on Google Adwords
forcium 05-10-2008, 03:50 PM I've been considering spending some money into advertising my web hosting services on Google Adwords.
However, I would like to know if anyone else have had any good experience with advertising with Adwords?
If so, how much should I spent Per Month on Adwords? Is it worth the price or are there better solutions?
Sweet Sniff 05-11-2008, 08:42 AM I think it is not profitable to use google Adwords due to the very high competition in the web hosting. it will cost you a lot of $$ and the ROI is not that much.
if you like to spend some money on advertisement, I think it's better to spend it on an affiliate program or on some banners on some forums.
that's only my opinion and I don't know about the others.

Sweet Sniff
forcium 05-11-2008, 11:56 AM Thanks for the opinion and suggestion. Any idea where would be a good place to buy banners and ad spots?
Tristan Perry 05-11-2008, 04:18 PM Press the "Learn more about advertising opportunities." link at the bottom of this page, and then contact iNet - they run various hosting-related websites.
However I did recently try out Hosting Catalog (one of their websites) and would advise against it. It's quite competitive, to the point when a company there clicked on my ads numerous times (50+ times) and used up $18 in ~12 hours.
Although apart from that iNet seem to offer pretty good services :)
jrianto 05-11-2008, 06:42 PM Forcium, try AdBrite, you can find a specific target where to advertise your company. Yes, Google AdWords has become very expensive these days.
Also you might want to search on "web hosting" in Google, and advertise your company on the directories or charts that comes on page 1. One of them is webhostingstuff.com.
That will get you started
Woooo 05-11-2008, 07:23 PM For all the budget you planned for adwords, you can get 10x leads using other ways, just look around and spend wisely.
jryan54 05-12-2008, 06:43 AM We have run a decent budget with adwords for a while...and ill tell you, we just made the decision to cancel it. Adwords used to be an excellent avenue for marketing but now its extremely expensive and competitive.
Sure there are some cheap keywords that you can bid upon but in the longterm it is becoming saturate and we would rather take a strategic view now otherwise beomce reliant on adwords as the future cost spirals out of control.
There are many more effective avenues for getting clients and i'd rather look at a variety of them rather than simply rely on one...Google.
Just my 2 cents
forcium 05-12-2008, 06:47 AM I might use Adbrite, anyone else have a say on this?
jryan, what will you use next?

I agree! Adwords is too expensive these days and almost useless!
My competitors sells unlimited space and unlimited bandwidth for just $50/year and they advertises on Adwords.
I am cancelling mine next month! I will be going for some good forums / blogs etc
WestNIC 05-12-2008, 11:18 AM I might use Adbrite, anyone else have a say on this?
If you need cheap traffic, go with Adbrite.
We were using them two years ago. Conversion rate was really low...
Mekhu 05-12-2008, 11:52 AM I'd actually go against what you hearing here on WHT and go for the Google Adwords approach. Contact me if you need the contact of our Adwords Management company.
All I can say is if you're losing money to unlimited hosts, then you're 100% wasting your money because you're not running your adwords campaign correctly.
Lets face it, 99% of people run their own campaign and suck at it.
Another positive recommendation for Adbrite.com! We've used them in the past with very decent results.
NeilE 05-14-2008, 05:15 AM Use Adwords, but don't bid for top spot or even page 1.
Concentrate on less common keywords.. you'll pay a lot less per click.
Instead of trying to get all of your traffic from Google.. bid low, and advertise everywhere.
Google is worth using, but they'll bankrupt you if you're not careful.
boonchuan 05-14-2008, 07:53 AM I find that for Adsense the web hosting keywords are too expensive, everyone seemed to be advertising for that keywords. Even if you get the clicks, it may not cover the expenses. I guess other venues even newspapers adverts may be cheaper.
In general web services keywords on Adsense is really not worth the high prices. But I do get good ROI for non web services keywords.

will ten cent bids get clicks?
Tristan Perry 05-14-2008, 10:34 AM will ten cent bids get clicks?
Nope. $0.75 bids may, although I've tried £0.35 ($0.70) bids for many keywords and don't get anywhere near the first page
Aussie Bob 05-14-2008, 10:51 AM . . . Lets face it, 99% of people run their own campaign and suck at it.
Yep, I'd agree with that. I haven't used adwords in a few mths, but had some success with it, but it was tough going.
