NikM755 05-08-2008, 06:13 PM I am considering buying luxury.net to setup a business. The owner is asking for $100,000. What do yall think its worth? The website is not developed.

If you look on this website
http://www.dnjournal.com/domainsales.htm
You will see soho.net, busy.net and goodies.net were all sold for under 10,000..
cereal.net 1300...
Do I think luxury.net is worth 100,000?
Heck no, but it depends.
I don't think it is worth that much.
Unless it is usa.net ;)
Techno 05-09-2008, 10:24 AM Run your numbers. Will getting that name generate an additional $100,000 in profits for you over the next few years vs getting a different name?
Don't base your decision on comparable sales. Base it on what that domain name is worth to you.
power101 05-09-2008, 04:09 PM If you have that kind of money to spend and think you'll make it back in say 2-3 years then why not?
Now, if you're gambling and could find yourself homeless then it's not worth it. :D
NikM755 05-09-2008, 04:16 PM I think the domain is worth $15,000-$25,000. The owner has yet to respond on my initial offer of $10,000. The domain will only create business validity, and wont help in advertising and the luxury market is in....decline and will continue to be until gas prices are lower. I'll wait this out and see if the domain owner wants to squat on this for another 8 years.
NikM755 05-09-2008, 04:25 PM Soho.net $16,000 Pvt Sale
Clerks.net on moniker is opening at $1-$5000.
Even 3 letter .nets are opening at 1-5000.
Domain speculators seem to think hey I have this fantastic name...that could be worth trillions. Now only if I had the perfect....business plan....tons of capital....an office building... thousands of dollars a month in advertising.....tens of thousands in labor and was willing to risk......my life to make it work i'd start it. Minus 9.800 out of 10. I'm not willing to pay more than the value of the domain. Period.
This isnt 1998...the capital isnt there, wild ideas are gone, and internet stocks dont go up 200% in a day. Your domain is loosing value, as a property is a bad investment for the buyer, and is a bad investment for the seller (consider what would have happened if you sold 5 years ago, instead of $30,000 youd have $55,000 now -7 year rule..on the stock market). Period.
NikM755 05-09-2008, 04:43 PM Plus you lose $5,000 since the internet boom. Smart move...speculators.

good thing they found parking because instead of making nothing, those good names started earning money automatically, some making millions on ppc passively without even selling off their assets... but oh well, that game i for those who 'didnt sell back then' and kept all those domains which are a 'bad investment'
NikM755 05-09-2008, 07:03 PM Your wrong.
Most domains don't receive millions direct traffic. So what do they have to do? Spam the domain. Thereby, loosing value in their domain. PPC is also decreasing, year over year. That's why these speculators DON'T make money and DON'T sell there domains. Period. I believe your talking about the junk market (aka new registriations)
How many people invest $20,000 to get a decreasing ppc of $28/month? (Double your money every 60 years, laugh)
bizcredit 05-12-2008, 12:44 PM Luxury.net is a great domain name I must say. But 100,000 worth? I dont think so, I'm sure you can find an alternative for much cheaper. 100,000 is a bit pricey imo. But if you have the money go for it :)

Bah, it is far too easy to make generalised comments on different situations with variable conditions -- one could talk about anything and everything and mean pretty much nothing. ;)
