View Full Version : Magazine Partnership
mattalland 08-22-2002, 11:55 PM I have an incredibly good idea. I'm looking for about 20 or so web hosts that are willing to pay a few thousand each to be a part of a huge aggressive campaign to get some insane traffic from some prominent resources. Each of the companies would chip in money which would lead traffic to HostCommunity.com. HostCommunity.com would then list each of the partner providers. This would be insane traffic than none of us would be able to do on our own. If anyone thinks this is a good idea, please email me so we can discuss further where to go with this. Thanks.

Searching through many of your previous posts. I'm noticing the tendency to jump from one idea to another. First you wanted to write a Web hosting book, then start a Web hosting expo. Perhaps you should start setting more obtainable goals? As it seems you are easily discouraged, and move onto your next idea once you realize the difficulty attached in successfully accomplishing such ideas.
Just a suggestion. Good luck.
pgrote 08-23-2002, 12:55 AM Where would we be without idea men?
I like the idea of the expo. Did it ever take off?
Synthetic 08-23-2002, 12:59 AM I've noticed the same thing. A new idea seems to make its way through your mind every so often, and you then come here asking for investments.
What sort of "huge aggressive campaign" are you speaking of?
Maybe you should plan out something that you can afford/manage on your own. If it works out well and is successfull, more people will have confidence in making an investment.
Oh, and there have already been some web hosting expo's held in the past, and more to come in the near future. Of course, that's not to say that you could come up with yet another one.
hi,
maybe im stupid (or just not entirely awake, got up 2mins ago) but, how am I as a host going to benefit from this?
Whats the difference between my own ad campaign, where I receive 100% of the traffic, than one where i have to share the traffic with other ppl/hosts? though! that budget is bigger.
I would still receive a percentage of it, worth about the percentage of the total budget I paid.
I dont get it, please explain what is so good about it :)
have a nice day everyone

BattleForums 08-23-2002, 01:18 AM Asking hosts to chip in a "few thousand" each to get listed in some non-existant directory?... sorry, but is this a joke? I really am not sure. If it isn't, then, lemme say. Any host that has $3000 to spare is most likely already very large and already listed with many hosting portals and directories. I just don't see the business aspect of asking for $60,000 to start up a business...
DJiMPaCT 08-23-2002, 01:34 AM I am looking for about 900 hosts to all chip in a few thousand :) We are going to run a commercial during the super bowl a 15 second shot which we will all make a lot of profit :) whadya say?
We will point them all to one site where we compete for the client. Or we could just use WHT wich is allready established and doing the exact same thing :)
Either way.
mattalland 08-23-2002, 01:47 AM FINE! Bomb my idea you poopy heads :)
I throw out a lot of ideas, I'm an idea man. Its not that I throw away the other ideas, but I like to discuss them with people. See what you guys think. Also, maybe some of you have seen this in your own lives, one idea turns into another or one idea sparks something or a contact that leads into something valuable.
Also, with the investment thing: I would like some big VC partners, so I don't think there's anything wrong about coming to the premier industry discussion group to discuss it.
I'm a pure creative person, that is evident at my own site mattalland.com. Tons of cool art and stuff like that. In a world of pure structured thinkers where would we be without people who throw out outrageous ideas? So obviously not all of my ideas are great, but its worth 500 bad ideas if just one idea is something that inspires people and turns into to something incredible.
DJiMPaCT 08-23-2002, 02:08 AM Yes we know that :) We are just giving you a hardtime! :) that is what WHT is based on :stickout
NovaW 08-23-2002, 02:10 AM You've got to give the guy some credit for what he's done already at such a young age. Okay so some of his ideas are a bit shall we say not so well thought out - but ideas are what makes the world a better place - you can never have too many. I only wish that I had been as entrepreneurial as his is when I was his age.
With a few years of real world experience under his belt - then he is undoubtedly going to be a great success.
Good luck to ya Matt :)
Acroplex 08-23-2002, 03:04 AM wrong forum.
NovaW 08-23-2002, 03:13 AM a moderator moved it here - so I guess that makes it the right forum :)
Styles 08-23-2002, 03:46 AM The thing is his ideas aren't so creative. But rather just far-fetched. Anyone can conjure up an idea, especially one's as basic as Matt's. However not everyone has the determination to actually pursue the idea. I give credit when credits due. Therefore a different post each week about needing Ventured Capitalists to lay some dark fiber on Mars just doesn't cut it for me.
Matt, just know I am not attacking you. In fact I wish you the best of luck. But after Nova's response it seems as if your getting a bit to much credit... Please prove us all wrong and make something that will revolutionize the Hosting industry. :)
zRedDice 08-23-2002, 08:25 AM And...
What magazines are you thinking of?
Some, like Newsweek or Time, charge (probably) an easy million for a full page ad...
I have no idea about something more industry-related like PCWorld...

pgrote 08-23-2002, 10:38 AM Matt ... keep the ideas coming. The best hitters in baseball only connect less than 4 times out of 10. :-)
