Well no real big secret.
I have it listed on google and a million other search engines and directories.
I have been a long-term member on 3 other boards where I have my website in my sig.
But to tell you the truth I get very few members from other forums.
I have a pet center as one of my forums, do I did a little advertising on some pet sites.
People just happened by on their own I guess. I have the best members any one could ask for and I’m lucky to have them. My advice is to be patient and they will come.
Basically my members range in the age of 25 to 60 years old. It’s directed more towards older folks lol I’m 40 myself so this is the audience I’m look for. BUT all are welcome we do have several teenagers on the board.
Good luck with your forum hang in there and they will do well.

My trick? Well it's a local autoclub... So this was a much needed outlet... I already had a user base, I just provided the space for it....
So the trick is to find a group of people that want a board and give it to em....

Deb Suran 10-04-2002, 08:22 AM The Musical Instrument Makers Forum (http://www.mimf.com/cgi-bin/WebX), opened 7/5/97. We turn our counter back to zero every year on our birthday. We expire all discussions after 14-60 days without a new post (depending on the subject), after which they are removed from the forum database and only the ones worth preserving are archived into our Library of past discussions as static HTML files. Our Library currently contains over 6,000 files, about 120mb. We also delete members who have not logged in for 6 months or more, both these practices are to conserve RAM, always a problem with the forum software we use.

You know that Invision Board offers converters so you are able to convert your current members over to the Invision Board database without having them re-register? Check out ibresource.com for the converter. They have 'em for most of the major forum applications out there (i.e. vB, phpbb, ikonboard, etc.)

Daijoubu 10-09-2002, 01:19 AM Tips: don't start with hundread forums, people may think it's a empty board with 1/2 post per forum, starts with few common forums, likes: General/Off-topic/News. You may also make multiple accounts to start conversation and makes people replies to your topic and attract them :D
You can also let guest read, but have them register to post :stickout:

rockergrrl 10-28-2002, 10:57 AM vBulletin doesn't have webmail by default. Chen, a team member over at vB, as well as a mod over at Yaxay, created a webmail program called, HiveMail, that can be a standalone script or integrated with vBulletin.
HiveMail is great! I've see it change in leaps and bounds the last few months. Its going to be a hit, I'm 100% sure of it.
The HiveMail website is hosted on my server, so I have all the juicy details of it all, but I'm not sharing. :) But I'm also friends with Chen, and he's always sharing with me what he's been working on.
