Hey All

This is the story.

On monday I decided to use namecheap.com to register my domian name, so I used their step by step billing program. I then decided to pay by Visa debit card Electron (UK), it then failed so I thought ok fair enough lets try paying via paypal as they have that option that allows you to transfer funds from your payapl account into your namecheap account so I did that and successfully paid and registered the domain name, here is some proof.

PayPal Email ID PP120now I was abale to access my domian name since it pointed to namecheap, so I knew it was working ok.

then a couple of days later I try to login to my namecheap account and it says my account had been locked. there response is shown below.

Dear Joe,

Unfortunately, your account did not pass our fraud verification process. We will need further information in order to activate your account.

Please supply us with a valid phone number and the best time to call you (within normal business hours, US Pacific time) so we will be able to discuss this.

There is no need to be alert, as we always ask this kind of information in order to activate accounts that have not passed our fraud verification process. This is done in order to protect our current customers and any future customers, like you, from malicious users.

We're looking forward to your reply.

IMO, they are simply acting based on the results of their fraud detection process. Obviously something triggered an alert. Why don't you just comply and get it worked out? It's not like they took your money and ran.

BTW, you should think twice about what you say in your thread titles. Me thinks you are far too harsh with this one. They did not "rob" you.

they have taken my money lol, and the domian that I registered has been unregistered and the money that I used to pay for the domian name they have not giving me back, I would not be angry if they kept my domain name still active but locked my account and resolved the issue that way. but nope they unregistered the name kept my $10.00 so I paid for something that somone else can reregister.

and I dont understand where the fraud came into it lol I am not that type of person I have applied to become a police officer in the UK.

Yes sometimes Visa Electron cards dont work on some sites. so I paid in the end using paypal

Hello Joe,

We have received one ticket concerning this issue which was yesterday afternoon and the reply above was the last response.

Has anyone at our company denied you anything in regards to your request for your funds? No, absolutely not, yet your first thought is to come here and post that we are trying to rob you?

We asked you to provide further identification so that we could unlock your account. This was after your transaction raised red flags and we put in a call to verify before we locked your account.

edit: I see you have been in further contact with our live support techs and they are handling the issue. Next time please try to be more patient before you throw accusations like the above around.

I dont think you all understand what I am trying to say.

1) I registered My domian name paid in the end using paypal
2) Domain name registered successfully tried it out and it pointed to your pointer page, I checked the whois as well and it was regiseterd to me etc..
3) couple of days later you lock my account and unregister my domian name so any one can register it now

that is why I am angry mainly that somone can reregister my domian name and I transferd funds from my bank account using paypal to pay for it.

this is where I am getting confused about the fraud situation.

4) I would ask kindly can we sort this out via email since I am in the UK it is easier I find

5) and what was the exact reasson for the fraud status was it my card as it is a Visa Electron

at the end of the day you got your money everything went though ok according to your end and paypal end.

And I dont believe that I tried "Fraudulent conversion and obtaining money or property by false pretenses" according to deffinition of fraud, I did everything legit

Joe,

You provided an invalid phone number when you signed up with us. This is a direct violation of our terms of service. Your transaction also raised other red flags that we will not go into details about.

What exactly did you expect us to do in this situation when you were the one that provided invalid information?

We have a set time frame that we have to delete a domain name. We either have to take action or eat the costs. We cannot afford to take chances in these cases.

Hi Rich can you confirm the number that I signed up with?

Some people are impatient like that and don't want to try the proper support methods before running into the woods crying 'bear'.

I've had issues where namecheap screwed up, and they always admit it and fix it. You've GOT to give them time to do this though. A couple days? Not time for running into the woods in this case. Give THEM time to work the issue out.

Richard's very reasonable, and namecheap is very good at what they do. Like he said, they've got a very limited time in which to cancel the domain, or eat the cost. Of course, as a low cost provider, they're not going to 'eat the cost', because that is passed on to those of us who love them as I do ;). They're smarter than that.

Fraud is fraud. Not sure why it took a few days to catch up with you, but it's still fraud anyways. When an account is at risk for 'fraud', it's also at high risk for 'chargebacks', which make fraud just that much more of a pain, because THEY usually entail a 30-50 charge, on top of the initial $9 charge. Thusly, yes, the provider needs to be careful of fraud.

Namecheap was just acting responsibly here. Give them time to do their jobs properly, without running into the woods and screaming 'bear'.

Dont get me wrong I like Namecheap and have used them in the past many times, And I have not done anything wrong, and Like I said I have used them in the past and never had this issue.

I am paypal verified, and still waiting to know the exact reasson why I have been suspected of fraud, I have probably had more security checks than most people on this forum and all are clean. those security checks are for the police, security check for working at a school etc..

Joe, it makes me crazy to see people so irresponsibly making accusations as you have. YOU entered invalid info when registering your NC account, which is a breach of their terms. What did you expect them to do? Eat the charge on the domain name when YOU breached TOS???

If you have used them in the past, and have been happy with their services, it defies logic why you would rush here to create a thread titled Namecheap.com robbed me!!!. Such an inflammatory accusation does not win you any points in the public arena. Get a grip, take a breath, and deal with it responsibly.
