Wow, just stopped by the site they have an awsome deal Dedicated Server Cobalt RaQ 4i with 150 Gigs of transfer for only 99 bucks a month. How can they offer this plan when most companies are charging 5x what they are for even less? Anyone use them?

Okay, hostboy, let's see if you've been paying attention and learning your lessons.

Their site says, under their $10 monthly account (with a $39 setup fee: Unlimited Hits and Transfers

Their flashing advertisement at the bottom of the page says:
"dedicated cobalt raq servers. $99 monthly. no contracts. bandwidth included."

Their Dedicated Server Cobalt RaQ 4i $99 monthly 150 gb transfer special has 155 available (a way of saying buy right now).

Please examine these remarks and tell the class what you believe the answer to your question is.
:)

I think the verdict is still out on Rackshack. Most of the posts here have been of the "Are they any good?" variety; I haven't seen much in the way of customer feedback, good or bad. You may want to look here: http://www.webhostingtalk.com/showthread.php?threadid=6497

I think this is a case of something most of us should be immune to by now - Loss Leading. Best way to get your name in lights is to offer

***GREAT DEALS***

for a while so everyone stands up and takes notice. The deals disappear but the idea is you have enough happy people to keep the vibe going.

I'm old and slow and prefer to sit about and wait for a company to outlast it's hype first before I jump the gun. Actually sometimes it's all that good publicity that actually kills them off. Explosive growth is fine if you're ready for it. It'd bad if it smothers you in the first week out. This is the internet after all - people can turn on you like rabid dogs in a heart beat *lol*

From their own TOS:

----------
Network Performance

RackShack accounts operate on shared resources. Excessive use or abuse of these shared network resources by one customer may have a negative impact on all other customers. Misuse of network resources in a manner which impairs network performance is prohibited by this policy and may result in termination of your account.

You are prohibited from excessive consumption of resources, including CPU time, memory, disk space and session time. You may not use resource-intensive programs which negatively impact other customers or the performances of RackShack systems or networks. RackShack reserves the right to terminate or limit such activities.
-----------

Unlimited is a lie!! You cannot have unlimited anything without consuming system resources from others in a shared server environment! Why people can't seem to grasp this concept gives me nightmares about the future of the human race :D

A clause like the one above gives the host SOLE discretion as to what is and what is not excessive use.

erm,

Is that for virtual hosting, or ded servers? It looks like a hosting TOS, and doesn't seem too applicable to a dedicated server...

Also regagrding the numbers of server left. That number was quite high at one point, over 350, so I don't think it's only purpose is to rush sales. I've chatted with them often and have thus far always received quick responses.

Not totally. I left a browser in their chat room open all night and despite 3 employees in there, problems were not solved quickly, or at all. They seem to not support any extra's, MySQL, DNS, etc and won't help with them either. So in comparison to http://www.4webspace.com it's features vs support and which do you want.

Yep, you're right. My bad. That is for the virtual hosting plans.
