View Full Version : Bluequartz/Centos Sendmail configuration problem

I have a Cobalt RAQ4R which I have recently setup with Bluequartz/CentOS. I have also installed Mailscanner and ClamAV.

I also have an existing Windows NT based mail server which I plan to replace with the RAQ. Both sit behind a NAT firewall with SMTP service presently pointing to the old NT box.

The setup appears to be operating correctly, except for one MAJOR problem. I am using a DynDNS address in the MX records for the public IP address of the mail server.
When I try to send a message to any of the Cobalt Raq local mail adresses, using Squirellmail or telneting directly to port 25, the mail domain address is changed to the DynDNS domain name and passed to the smarthost.

For instance:-

MX record for mydomain.net resolves to mydomain.dyndns.org

Mail is sent to the local user and domain myname@mydomain.net, in the mailheader I can see that the address has changed to myname@mydomain.dyndns.org before being forward to my ISP's mail server.

This happens for all the users and domains hosted on the server. I have checked /etc/local-host-names which is correct.

Is this a problem with Sendmail or Mailscanner, is the mail setup picking up the Dyndns domain name from a local configuration file or is it checking the MX records and ammending the domain name to match, and how do I correct it?

Many thanks

Steve

Not gonna happen, dude. I spent almost a week trying to get Sendmail to work with Dynamic DNS on various RaQ's I have at home. I have yet to figure out just WHY there's such a problem. Too old of systems to investigate.

Hell, I couldn't even get a generic Cobalt OS to work with it, let alone Strongbolt+BQ.

Try creating an MX record for the domain name WITHOUT using the systems entire hostname and see if that does anything...doubtful, though.

It got so bad that I ordered myself a block of IP's from my ISP and voila. It worked. Go figgur.

I can't see why the server should be using MX records for local host names. Mail should be delivered directly to the local users mailbox on the server.

I did try the previous Cobalt RAQ4 OS and the mail server worked as expected. I then changed to BQ/Centos so I don't think this is problem with the RAQ server and dynamic DNS.

As of about 10 minutes ago I just restored a RaQ4 with Strongbolt Linux+CentOS/BQ. This weekend I'm going to give it another shot. Let you know what I find.

It's times like this I wish Zeffie was still here. He's played with these with dDNS before.
