Hello,

I'm looking for someone who could offer me a server where I could work out my idea. Of course I don't have money:) but I try to make the deal so it's kinda attractive to you too.

What I need is a server with real player or quicktime's audio server installed, a good amount of space (2-3 gb) and unlimited bandwidth.

What can I offer? Before I tell you that...what I'm trying to create is a net radio/TV with a great twist on it. I don't want to get into details here in the board, but they have something similar in Europe (not internet based) and it's verry popular. So what I could do is offer you advertisement on the site, advertisement in the net radio/TV and a certain percentage of all the earnings that come out of this project. I'll try to make it worthwhile to you, if you have other ideas please let me know of them.

Who am I? Im 20 yr old student living in Vancouver, with much experience in web development especially in the video/animation field. i moved here from Hungary a few years ago, that's why I know what's going on there ;)

If this thread is not appropriate, I am really sorry, I don't mean to break any rules.

Thanks,
Levi

ps i hope i made it clear enough that i'm not trying to get some free service from anyone.

I think you might be better off talking to a large company. Also have something to show them so they know you are serious (not to say that you aren't already).

Do you have any company in mind phpcoder? A larger company I know of is featureprice.com

Not really. Ask around. Look around. I mean you do have LARGE places like DELL that *might consider something.

I don't think you'll find anyone willing to offer this type of bandwidth. Like mentioned above, your best bet is to find someone with alot of unused bandwidth (for instance, someone who has a 100mbps cogent connection) and server space to spare. You'd also probably need to sign contracts, as well as show the company some of your work and basically tell them all your plans (you'd probably want to also get a NDA for this). In reality, the chances of you finding a "sponsor" are very slim. The reason I use the world sponsor is because it seems like, for the first few months atleast, that they would pretty much gain nothing (as your site wouldn't produce many profits). It sounds like an interesting idea though. I wish you would tell us more about this site you plan to make :)

BTW, I'm from Burnaby, B.C..... so hello :)

Unlimitted bandwidth, when talking in terms of streaming media, can get very very high. I don't think you'll find anyone ready to invest so much while you can't.

Try so start slower I'd say... Setup something on a server, but don't publicize it. Once it's up and running as it should, then you either make a deal with a host or try to approach a bigger company. But so far, considering (unless I misunderstood) you have nothing to show anyone, you're asking for a big commitment.

thanks for all your input guys.
I have thought on this bandwidth issue though:).. It's not like we setup a server and there goes 100GB a month. until the site is launched which is at least 2 months, there will be only testing which won't take up more bandwidth then 1-2 Gb. After that it's directly proportiional with the visitors. More people, means more bandwidth, but it also means more profit.

Sounds simple, but you'd also need to show the company how you planned to make that profit. Also, you'd probably have to end up giving them a larger percentage of the profits in the long run if you signed a deal with them when you didnt have anything completed. If you can show a company something that interests them, then you have more bargaining power when it comes to profit sharing. Just curious though, how does this site of yours plan to make money? Banner ads, membership fees, PPD (pay-per-download) or what? Banner ads really don't cut it, unless you intergrated dynamic ads into the streaming videos, but you'd probably need someone in marketing to do that for you (to get advertisters)... so if you present a company your ideas, be sure to include unique and appealing ways that the site will profit.

good luck

Would this have anything to do with 'request' based music video channels?

You're right, and I am doing as much as I can. I am building and testing the scripts on my computer. But my computer is not a server, it's just desktop pc. I can't do everything on it. Especially when it comes to bandwidth. Shaw would cut me off in a second if I exceed their limit.
I plan to make profits from advertisements on the radio. Yes I probably will need a marketer. But I didn't expect to pull this off alone.

ionserv, yeah similar to those channels
