View Full Version : ModernBill 5 - What's wrong with it?
VN-Ken 04-24-2008, 02:35 AM So from what I have been reading, when it comes to the topic of ModernBill I tend to see a lot of people bash the product.
I wanted to make a thread specifically for obtaining details on why users are so frustrated or happy with the product.
What specifically is wrong with Version 5? If you don't have anything against it, then please also indicate your experiences as well.
Thank you.
ataylor 04-24-2008, 02:56 AM Specifically with the ordering process. Its been Ajaxed up to a ridiculous amount, almost to the point where its less user friendly. Other billing systems seem more straight forward.
chillipc 04-24-2008, 05:40 AM I just took a look at the demo and IMO it's packed with features and the interface is to clutterd I also dont like the order pages give me WHMCS any day with it simplicity, dont get me wrong back in the day Modern Bill was great now it's poo poo so to speak.
saimmalik 04-24-2008, 09:19 AM We once tried MB 5 and it is too complicated to setup also their support is not willing to help without paid support.. Also MB 5 is very slow as compare ot MB 4....

That is my exact experience of it, setting it is far far far to complex, to the point where we didn't get it fully configured before binning it for WHMCS. v4 was nice, but it is totally out classed by WHMCS now.
railto 04-24-2008, 09:40 AM hmm, a better question is, what is right with MB5, simple answer, nothing.
On a serious note tho,i started with mb4, was slow and just didnt like the interface, went to mb5, slow, horrible to setup, internal support system sucked, nasty interface.
Moved to WHMCS and so much better, then started seeing a few fatal flaws, looked at awbs, and wont move from it, a little tricky to setup and stuff, but total integration to kayako, and so much more, it just works plain and simple
whservices 04-24-2008, 10:02 AM When we started looking for a billing system, we originally looked at ClientExec, as we've been using them for many years. However, they lacked a few of the features that we needed. After speaking with ModernBill, and the promise that MB could provide the features that we wanted, we figured we'd give them another try. However, that was short lived. My thoughts on V5...
1) Installation was simple and straight forward (as it should be.)
2) Configuration of products, signup forms, etc ... a complete nightmare. After 12 hours of trying to get all our products setup, and TRYING to get the signup form customized away from MB's default form, we started looking for another billing system.
3) The interface is overwhelming and not user friendly at all. It's packed with a dozen features or "modules" that the average hosting company would never make use of. It would be nice if you could select the ones that you want during the installation, and ONLY THOSE are installed.
I think that Modernbill has huge potential. I hope that Parallels gets them back on track. For the time being, we have decided to use WHMCS. It's pretty easy to use and has all the features that we're looking for.
Toby H 04-24-2008, 10:10 AM I suspect Parallels will kill off modernbill and steal the best bits of it to add to one of their existing systems.

This is what I thought, doesn't Parallels HSPcomplete include a heavy billing system?

hspcomplete is just that, complete, billing system, cp's etc etc, tho i h8 the look of it
whservices 04-24-2008, 10:47 AM Who knows what they will do with MB. Regardless ModernBill needs some help...
VN-Ken 04-24-2008, 01:13 PM Thank you all for your feedback. Please keep it coming.
marcbarak 04-24-2008, 02:22 PM we gave up and wrote our own
Where do I start? each version became more touchy and problematic. And they have arguably the worst support in the industry with any second FAR behind
daejuanj 04-24-2008, 02:32 PM Parallels should be able to fix Modernbill up. They just won an award!

marcbarak 04-24-2008, 02:37 PM They have their hand full fixing that mess
I wish them all the luck in the world but they have an abundance of dissatisfied clients to attempt to win back
there are numerous threads of frustrated Modernbill users
Metallian 04-24-2008, 11:04 PM my problem with MB5 is To Slow in admin panel not so friendly, more complicated , that sucks
Metallian 04-24-2008, 11:05 PM the OrderProcess And Client Panel are awesome
hellsa 05-28-2008, 12:55 PM They seem to be ignoring support requests. 8 days and still waiting for an answer to a question that impacts my ability to run my business. This is a problem.
