Not sure if many people around here have an interest in shared hosting but I got some friendly advice while I was searching for host (different account mind, apologies) so I thought I'd return and give back a little love :D

Time with Vidahost: 6 months
Hosting package: Shared hosting
Domains hosted: Will provide via PM as requested

Site Speed/Uptime: 2/10

Now then, Vidahost have recently doubled the bandwidth/space provided on all their Shared packages and up until this point I woulda probably given them 8/10 - uptime was 99.99% and despite a few erratic slowdowns my sites were generally fine.

However, since the quota 'upgrades' both my users and myself have been having no end of trouble. Although the boxes are still consistently 'up', lightweight pages regularly take in excess of ten seconds to load and at varying times in a day this can rise beyond 20 seconds, often forcing the browser to just give up.

The box on which their Control Panel/FTP services are hosted is even slower, I've often sat for a minute waiting for the page to load/client to connect.

In a word: woeful.

Support: 10/10

Genuinely flawless. Friendly, professional - no problem is too small and in all my time there have only had to wait more than 30 minutes for a response once. Phone support is equally superb, picked up quickly and dealt with just as smoothly.

Sorry I couldn't offer better news especially given their excellent reputation on here but unsurprisingly I'm looking for a new host and would recommend anyone considering their Shared package to do so too.

Hope this is of help!

Ouch, that sucks for thier uptime. Did you try contacting thier support and ask why it's taking that long to load pages?

Yeah, obviously being so happy with them before I'm loathe to leave and have really tried to get things sorted but I get the impression that they just don't see a problem. Perhaps I'm the only one complaining but with such horrendous performance I'd find that hard to believe.

Without wanting to give my identity away before I find somewhere else, I currently have a 12-month commitment to them and feel forced to ditch it half way through. Okay, it's not big money but it's £50 I could do without losing.

I have a reseller account with Vidahost and have also had these problems, as far as I know the problem is just with one of their servers getting overloaded - I requested that my accounts be moved and Dominic has been very helpful and they are almost all moved across now (I think it is server T7 that has the problem)

If you get them to move your account then I'm sure you will get better uptime ;)

It's definitely sad to hear of a host that has great support but doesn't manage to keep the servers running smoothly. It seems such a waste.

Sounds like they may be overloading there servers, have you asked them if you can be moved to a different server?
