View Full Version : Support in English
Fife Club 04-22-2008, 09:37 PM I absolutely don't mean to be rude, but my host has been nothing short of a horror story. Not nearly as bad as being offline for weeks and then coming back online being reverted to a 9 month old backup and php not working the same, I'm also sick and tired of talking to tech support people in India. Nothing against India, but I couldn't understand a damn word they were saying. And I'm not sure they understood what I was saying. Again, I'm not trying to be rude but I seriously want to know if it's an unreasonable request when searching for a new host whether their tech support is in America. Not understanding tech support is as good as not having any (which these guys sucked regardless of language)
I too have trouble understanding certain dialects/accents, so I feel your pain. I think if you ask the prospective host ahead of time and explain your inability to fully understand someone with strongly accented speech, it should not be a problem.
DATARTIM 04-22-2008, 09:53 PM I appreciate what your saying having had similar problems with my phone company and other things like that, but Its more a case of phone support is best done by someone who's first language is English. As the problem is a lot use voip setups and either that or bad lines make the quality of the call worse and its even harder to understand.
If ticket support is good enough you shouldn't need to use phone support except for emergencys.
Just my 2 cents.
David 04-22-2008, 09:56 PM Please do the needful and get a new host.
TonyB 04-22-2008, 10:20 PM Well one thing I wonder is the problem the fact the host pays bottom of the barrel prices for their support team and it reflects that? I'm sure if you were to go america based and pay minimum wage you wouldn't do much better. Maybe they'll be easier to understand but they won't have a clue.
My thoughts anyways, I think it's about looking for a host with a good support record regardless of their support staff location.
ephasenetworks 04-22-2008, 10:22 PM Sorry to hear for your troubles.
I would imagine most hosts stateside would offer support in the U.S. unless your calling way past business hours.
It's not unreasonable at all. It's your right as a customer to know whose going to be servicing you. I do it all the time, and that's what saves you in the long run from problems.

You got it. I had trouble understanding anyway but the horrible phone connection made it so much worse. My host used to have US support but about a year ago moved all support (and possibly hosting too) to India.
And somebody else was right that phone support shouldn't matter if email support works, but that was the problem - no responses at all. I'm hunting for hosts tonight. I'll choose and sign up for one tomorrow.
Thanks.
DATARTIM 04-22-2008, 11:25 PM Hopefully if people keep voting with their wallets and signing up with other providers they will realise that its not even financially a good idea. I know some companys that moved call centers back to the US for this very reason.
Good luck finding your new host and be sure to share your experience with them as well.
cgiGeek 04-23-2008, 02:35 PM English is not my first language and I dont think you are rude, I think you should get the support in GOOD english, (no matter if they are in india or wherever)
I can tell you do, that is getting really good, now a days is not so easy to tell where are they at.
Energizer Bunny 04-23-2008, 02:43 PM Again, I'm not trying to be rude but I seriously want to know if it's an unreasonable request when searching for a new host whether their tech support is in America.
Haa does having tech support from Emrica (desi babu would read it right), warrant that you will not be speaking with an indian :) (no offense here to fella desi babus but seriously we do have crappy accent even i have issues trying to understand someone from india speaking to me in english, i rather prefer hindi from them than english, not saying my engliz rocks but been working here for 2 years or more ur accent changes, and those who do support from india lack the environment to affect their accent)
Dont get hopes high just cause someone is in America, you might still get stuck with someone not being able to speak english, like maybe someone from pariz, zapan, or some other plaze.
Wellz, when doing research for hosting, i think you should concentrate on the communication aspect rather than the location aspect :stickout:
Like u said communication is key to global domination (shoot there goes my world domination plan down the d---n !)..
PS: plz do not blame India for all support issues, support should not be even needed if host is compatible enough.
Might i ask what host you are talking about?
markjut 04-23-2008, 05:56 PM Have you complained to your host about this, they might not be aware that their outsourced support is not performing well.

I'm not even sure anymore. My host should be Energized Hosting (I should have left them when I had the same problems last December). Late last year they sneaked in some sort of unclear partnership with a company called PugMarks. Since they "moved" to PugMarks the hosting has been horrible and the support has been literally non-existent unless you call them in India (but then they say it should be back online in 15 minutes and it's still not fixed a week later). I have several tickets that have not been addressed for weeks.
You're all right that it's not necessarily a location thing but about being able to speak the customer's language clearly enough to actually communicate.
In any case I've had enough of their crap. I am chosing a new host before I go to sleep tonight.

Well yes money spent for a good night sleep is totally worth it, cause afterall health is wealth :agree: , so good luck to you in finding the right host.
