Hi
I am seriously thinking about getting proper hosting for one of my own sites and a friend pointed me here. I think the deal at http://www.your-site.com looks good, has anyone used them? Does anyone know any alternatives (I want .htaccess, CGI access, no banners, UNIX preferably, under £/$5 a month). Also is a IP address an important thing to have with webspace? And lastly, if I register a domain at say, easily.co.uk will I be able to point that at my webspace and use it in the format http://www.myaddress.co.uk/folder/page.htm, as I have seen many domains that you cant do this on, ant they tend to be static (i.e. they don't change depending on what page you are on).

I am a first timer at this proper stuff, so any tips?

Thanks in advance

A quick look shows that it seems to be up front about most things. There were no obvious and glaring signals that indicate intentional deceit.

The monthly rate of $5 is based on paying for a year (not generally advisable unless they have a good reputation or you have previous experience with them), and the $7 monthly or $6 quarterly rate is only a modest premium over the lowest discounted rate.

I wouldn't use them for registering domains, though. Not only can you do much better than the $20 they want, but choosing a registrar is nearly as important as choosing a host. The Open SRS system has garnered a lot of praise. If you shop by price alone, you may regret it even more than selection of a bad host.

A dedicated IP address is not important to a large number of sites. One might even say of you have to ask, you don't need it.

Some domain redirect services can indeed point to specific pages in different directories. This can also be done at the server level.

I have found another host that looks good, http://www.supanames.co.uk, has anybody tried these, or does anybody think they look dodgy etc?

I have had excellent experience with your-site.com in the past. I now have my own servers, but when I had my sites hosted with them - speed, reliability and customer service was always very good.
