View Full Version : indecisive NS changes
alpha 03-11-2001, 12:47 PM i have no clue what it is, but I seem to be having alot of problems related to registrars!
ok, on march 8th, i attained a new host (thanks Carlos :)) and pointed my nameservers in my domain manager at registerfly to appropriate wizardshosting nameservers.
Before i bought a hosting package from wizardshosting, I had been using mydomain.com's nameservers since I had forwarded the domain to another URL.
Ever since about 24 hours ago, the site seems to be pointing at the right nameservers, then back to mydomain.com's nameservers then a few hours later back to the right WH nameservers, then back to mydomain.com's nameservers (looped every few hours)
and When i whois the domain, it shows the right wizardshosting nameservers and it doesn't seem to be changing at all!
i have been pinging and trying to access my cpanel through my domainname instead of the ip address and sometimes its pointing at the right IP addresses and few hours later, i come back to find it pointing back to mydomain.com's IP addresses!
ugh! alot of problems this month even without me ever starting!
klisis 03-11-2001, 12:49 PM Even when whois shows the right namesevers, you must wait until your ISP updates theirs.
alpha 03-11-2001, 12:54 PM yea, but isn't it sorta out of the ordinary, when it seems that my isp is changing back and forth every few hours? (looped)
klisis 03-11-2001, 01:04 PM oh. I didn't read your message fully(I tend to not read long message fully these days ;) ). Sorry, pal.

(looped) Not really out of the ordinary, probably your isp has multiple dns servers and sometimes when you dial up you're connecting to one that has been updated and sometimes you're getting one that isn't. It's only been a couple of days; it'll probably clear up soon.
CRego3D 03-11-2001, 07:28 PM Hi John
actually, it's quite frequesnt believe it or not, and Jay explained it very well, they sometimes have various DNS servers :(
I don't knoiw about you guys, but a very peculiar thing I notice is the MAIL servers .. sometimes it takes up to 6[7 hours from the time the domain is resolving, to the time the actual Mail server is resolving to the right server ..
From my Location in MA .. your domain is resolving quite nicely already, but my ISP is usually very fast with DNS changes :)
alpha 03-11-2001, 08:02 PM its still coming on and off...
but its currently seems to be pointing to the right nameservers now...
ill just let roadrunner settle down a bit before i worry about it anymore :)
thanks all
ps. lol, i still gotta wait 29 days until i've past the first 60day (from domain registration) no registrar transfer rule! (i still can't believe registerfly charges for nameserver creations!)
Curious Too 03-11-2001, 09:03 PM I had a customer who experienced a similar problem updating their domain record with Register.com -- every few hours the domain would point to their old host and after another couple of hours the domain would point to their site on our server. I did a whois lookup at internic.net and it showed that both the old and new nameservers were listed on the domain record. Register.com acknowledged they made a mistake when they updated the domain profile and took care of the problem.
Note: whenever I did a whois lookup on the domain anywhere besides Internic.net, only the new nameservers showed up -- only at Internic.net could I view the entire record.
alpha 03-12-2001, 04:18 PM i changed my DNS servers on the 8th of March...
its the 12th now... site is still switching nameservers every few hours!
i even went to Internic.net to whois and showed the correct nameservers!
im gonna email registerfly and see whats up
alpha 03-13-2001, 05:35 PM its not funny anymore now
registerfly shows nothing wrong
my friends who live near me using another ISP sees nothing wrong (site resolved to correct IP address)
but for me, it changes!
like now
--- Looking up envisionhost.com
--- Resolved envisionhost.com to 208.184.130.180
--- Looking up 208.184.130.180
--- Resolved 208.184.130.180 to bronze.mydomain.com
how do I resolve this?
my isp is currently RoadRunner, i now strongly believe that something is wrong within my ISP and not my registrar!
ill take any suggestions!

what would I tell em? that they need to check up on their dns server to see if there's anything wrong?
i didn't know it was your ISP that had the database... lol, but then again, how should i know all this? :)
well, let me know the right terminology to use so that i am not explaining this awkwardly
hehe, rr technicians who actually know there job? that'll be a miracle!

Welcome to the wonderful disfunctional world of Roadrunners so called could be ISP (if they didn't re-wire those old pong machines to be routers). I've been having problems with Roadrunner as well, it seems when I signed up they were not in fact offering High Speed Internet, but instead High Speed Packet Loss.... yes my friends you can attain marvelous packet loss at extremely high speeds! No more waiting for that slow 404 error, you can have it now in vibrant 32-bit 2d accelerated graphics!!
And for a limited time only we will even throw in free tech humor. Not only do you get this high speed packet loss, you get the honor or our technicians amusing you and your colleagues for hours to the beautiful background music by Bach's newly found symphony 'Flipbook page flapping sounds in C#'!
And if that weren't enough we will even provide you with possible reasons to degrade you self esteem folks! That's right! We will happily blame any problems you may encounter on you!
Don't delay, this is a limited time sham, get shammed today!
</INDIRECT FLAMEAGE OF THE RR NETWORK>
With that said, I guess you could say that I am a bit unhappy with my RR service and may very well be having similar issues :)
Refer to the following post for more RR directed humor and whatnot:
