Hi again,

After getting duped out of $100 bucks this morning by the appraisal scam. I've spent the whole day studying forums trying to get an education into domain names. I've learn't heaps so far but the easiest questions remain unanswered.

To give you an insight, I own a portfolio of 60 .com and .net domains that were all purchased new and I've had them for a short time. They are all parked at sedo and have no traffic to speak of. My biggest one has had only 10 clicks in nearly a month - I must be Donald Trump.

When it comes to web knowledge, I'm no Einstein but pick things up really quickly (especially after I get ripped off)

Here are the questions, I have not been able to find an answer to anywhere.

In terms of monetising my portfolio of low traffic names, should I keep them parked at Sedo or do something independently to create traffic that may lead to future name sales?

I'm open to very basic concepts so that I can research the available options in detail without bothering too many people in the process. I guess the kind of info I'm looking for is similar to, "yeah dude, try this method, it's good because..."

I really look forward to your responses.
Cheers,
Spooled

The only good thing about Sedo parking is the visitor stats. You should definitely try another parking company. I'd suggest Parked. You should always use all the available optimization options you are given at each parking company.

Generally new registrations don't get much by way of traffic or parking revenue. They have no history of visitors. If you want revenue you should buy domains with traffic from the aftermarket.

It would probably be beneficial (and time consuming) to develop each domain into a mini site with say maybe 5 pages. Then read up about seo techniques and apply them to each domain, to bolster your search engine rankings for your key search terms. You could put Google's Adsense on the domains. However I'd be judicious and discrete with the ads.

You should go list your domains in directories. Seach engines like to see backlinks (grown naturally.. maybe 5 a week). But try to stay away from link farms. The backlinks have to look kinda natural.

Then, in maybe six months or so, when you have some traffic coming into the domains and they're indexed by the search engines Google, Yahoo, MSN. You might give them another shot at parking, if your'e not happy with your Adsense revenue.

Google's Sandbox? Myth or True? Probably a bit of both. It's been said that Google sandboxes new domains for up to 18 months. Which means they won't crawl your site. It would definitely help to have content on your sites and then use Google's Webmaster Tools and ask them to index your site.

You might want to look into something like DomainZar, their parking product "http://www.domainzaar.com/domain-money-maker-platinum.php" isnt too bad, it will create the mini site for you, and allow parking of lots and lots of sites.

I am not affiliated with them at all, before that question arises. I did however buy the product and play with it.

Not too bad, semi easy to use.

For free appraisal etc, I dont know how good it is before anyone asks, but tryout www.dnscoop.com

Ugh. Sorry to hear about your appraisal scam mishap :( Whatever you do if you get an email from someone saying they are interested in your domain but want you to get an appraisal from a certain site first, JUST IGNORE THEM.. HERE (http://www.namepros.com/warnings-and-alerts/) you can read up all about these types and all other types of scams in this industry..

For a very nice and quite accurate automated appraisal try: http://www.estibot.com. It's free not matter how many appraisals you do (unless you sign up for the bulk checker).

As far as monetizing and parking domains, try them at various parking companies, try various keywords and see what produces the best results.. Good luck!
