Hi,

We have a business website that is currently hosted on Windows. There is one of those generic control panels and we are now moving to Linux hosting also with a generic control panel.

All the staff has email and large email boxes. How can we move the mail from the old Windows host to the new Linux host. Both setups have dedicated IP's and yes they are on SHARED HOSTING so the tricks to change the email would be limited.

Any help would be appreciated.

Honestly is it possible just to download the e-mail to the computer (pop3)? It's hard enough converting mail on the same OS between 2 control panels (ie. plesk and cpanel on linux). I doubt there is an easy mailbox conversion for your imap mailbox between the two control panels.

That is going to be the final option.

I think your out of luck really, as your going from one system/OS to another which causes compatiability issues, I think your best bet is pop3 and then just upload to the new server.

Good Luck.

If you have IMAP support on both servers, you can easily create accounts for both in mail client such as Thunderbird and then just drag folders between accounts - it'll take care of migrating the messages between servers. It could take a while for accounts with lots of messages, but it's pretty simple to get going.

Have a look at Google Apps and see if it'll support your email needs.

If so they have some clear instructions on migrating old email accounts.
