Hey guys, sorry if this puts a downer on your fun, but I'm having real problems getting my money from Tim of Paradise-Designs and I'm not sure what to do next. As some of you will know...I've worked for him in the past as a freelance..yet everytime it's been a bumpy ride when it comes to payment. I'm hitting my head on the desk wondering why I didn't quit dealing with him after the first time.

He owes me $1050 from a design. This has been owed now for months. I had to wait 3-4 weeks just for the check to come. I cashed the check and my bank account was credited with the funds, only to have it debited back out 3 weeks after the cheque "bounced" for insufficient funds in Tim's account. (I'm in England...so it must take time) I spoke to Tim and again he told me to cash it and was 100% the funds were there. The same happened.

Today I got the cheque back and a letter telling me there was insufficient funds in Tim's bank. The money's been taken back out. I've also had to pay $100 in bounce fees. What do I do now?

I'd really appreciate any advice. Please. This is a lot of money..and I don't want to let Tim get away with it.

From what I understand, he owes quite a few people money. Have you looked into collections?

We use http://www.stuartallan.com and they have worked very well for us.

Thanks for the heads up. I was designing some banner ads for him, but if i'm not gonna get paid, .. no point..

Thanks again.

Yeah, from my experience, he's taken 3 weeks+ to pay me every single time (4 or 5 times), and that's with me constantly communicating with him and asking where the money is. Now he's just not paying at all...

Thanks for the advice Timothy, SoftWareRevue. I'm going to look into it.

Also, the check is not signed by Tim but by someone else, who I believe is his uncle, and not Tim. Does this make a difference to any of the above advice?

Next time, have your bank find out of the check can be covered by its bank. My bank does this for me. If not, ask them what kind of protection you have against check bouncers. That seems like a stiff penalty for depositing a check that was bad.

Ok will do. Thanks. They didn't actually charge me $100 for 2 check bounces..but it includes the fee for cashing foreign checks. There's a conversion fee of about $25-$30 and same for a bounce..

The check is signed "???" from what I can make out. I've never had a check signed by Tim, it's always Leonard..his uncle I believe.

Hello,
I haven't talked to Adam about this recent deal. again since he said it has come back again... You people are still guessing about my age good luck trying to figure it out cause you never will. I will be contacting our Bank Account to see what is up with this check. Normally sometimes since the check is way off from another country they will bounce the check. I will be getting ahold of the bank today and see what is going on with this and what reason the check come back and get this solved by either paypaling the funds or issuing them via CC.

PDSupports: I could sue your ass to if I wanted
PDSupports: posting who the check was signed by

Is this true?

Nahh....I've seen people scan bounced checks and post them on the web, newspaper ads. Even local news who went after a notorious hotcheck writer plastered the checks on the TV (aka The Tele for you brits :) )

There's a liquor (Spirits) store I goto that has a glass overlay counter with bounced checks displayed underneath it, revealing all the info, not just the name.

Banks often have problems with international cheques. Different countries format the relevant information differently, and if anything seems even slightly wrong they will bounce the cheque (since it's so much harder for them to get your money back after the fact).
