View Full Version : Review on Eggycrew hosting: Must read!
smiller2008 04-15-2008, 06:51 PM As a customer of EggyCrew, I would just like to say that these guys are the real deal when it comes to customer service. Not only are they the most honest company I've dealt with, but they are also the most reliable. In my first couple months with them, I have yet to notice even the slightest hiccup on their servers as far as it comes to speed or performance.
Although they are a smaller company, and therefore less known, I believe it only enhances their ability to give each one of their customers a more personalized experience when it comes to the hosting business. For the times I've dealt with customer service, I've always felt like there was a genuine person who cared about my problem and helping me resolve it, not some person in India who may or may not know what I'm dealing with. I have yet to call them, however since they are almost always signed into their companies AIM account, I've never needed to call them. Russell has always treated me with great respect and courtesy.
They use a DirectADMIN manager to help their customers manage their web pages, and from what I've dealt with so far, everything has been up to date and very reliable. My current webpage, wiijabber.com is a community based website for people who enjoy their Nintendo Wii. We sometimes distributes files to our community and the power of Eggycrew's servers have always been able to meet our needs.
As a final note, I'd like to say that Eggycrew's billing policy is very fair. They do not overcharge for their services in my opinion, and their prices always reflect the cheapest they can offer their customers.

Amy-T 04-15-2008, 07:37 PM He did. wiijabber.com :D
Maybe he did not read the whole thing lol
smiller2008 04-15-2008, 07:38 PM Although I thought I had included it, I cant go back and bold it. This does bring us to a great point though. If you'd like to look at eggycrew's webpage, it is the following:
eggycrew(insert dot here)com
My webpage, which is hosted through them, and also has wordpress installed through their installer, is at
wiijabber(insert dot here)com
Amy-T 04-15-2008, 07:45 PM wow your site is fast. Nice review by the way.
smiller2008 04-15-2008, 11:35 PM Ah, yeah. Totally ready for visitors. Too bad its still in it's noob days on the web! Anyway, once I turn on the cache it will be even faster!
Energizer Bunny 04-16-2008, 12:26 AM wow your site is fast. Nice review by the way.
A hint :
Using no graphics and just using colors does make websites faster, unless they are hosted on a pentium 2 with dial up connection :stickout: .
@dan, how could yaa miss out on the domain , bad dan bad !! :stickout:
Anyways looking at their uptime status : http://host-tracker.com/web-site-monitoring-stats/793047/lvuc/ i am not sure how you managed to get no hiccups, i know when a site is down its considered a hiccup, but than again ,i rarely trust any uptime services these days, i have been so unlucky that when server gets rebooted its at that very moment the trackers decide to track site and marks it down till their tracker scans again :(.
But as long as you are happy there, everything is cool.
PS: why does it say "Private Hosting" on their site ? What does it signify ?
smiller2008 04-16-2008, 12:54 AM Well, when you think about it, yes: a hiccup would be when the user (someone who dosen't know how a website works) is unable to access the site. Another thing is that the same user will not notice when a website goes down for 15 seconds every day at 3am.
If they're actively browsing the site, the chances of them noticing a short outage are slim, as they're probably doing something at the website, hence the point of a website in the first place. That's the point I was trying to make in the first point. The reliability from eggycrew is there.
Yeah, maybe the folks over at host-tracker have been able to see some downtime, but like you said, it's hard to say how accurate those posts really are.
Either way, I was really just excited about my new web page and wanted to share the experience I had with these guys.
As far as the "private hosting" thing goes; I think maybe it's just to showcase the experience you're going to get with their customer service. Instead of getting someone on the phone who you've never dealt with, you're going to get one of the same people on the phone who know you and will be able to help you personally. I don't think its supposed to provide any kind of hidden meaning.
Anyway, thanks for your time!
maniakaz 04-16-2008, 12:59 AM Nice review, but I still miss several things:
*How long are you with Eggycrew?
*How much hostings companies have you dealth with? (Not only are they the most honest company I've dealt with)
*seems like you had to use their support. Can you tell us more, please? Just wondering what problems have you faced, how fast were they resolved?
As for me, they offer too little plans: only 2 and then - customize. I think yhey should offer more plans (3, maybe 4). Prices look to be reasonable (thanks be to God - no overselling).
Nice to hear you are happy with them. Please, keep us informed about your impressions with this host :)
arjones85 04-16-2008, 01:22 AM Hello! Thank you very much for your kinds words smiller! I am very happy that our services are what you were looking for. :agree:
As far as our uptime is concerned, that tracker was actually added recently to the page, so it is slightly misleading. The 2 hour downtime you see there was caused by a kernel panic that happened around 3 or so in the morning. I actually have my cell phone set to be paged in the event of a downtime, but Verizon decided they were going to delay my text messages at that time also. The planets were aligned against me that night :)
Siteuptime.com has actually been monitoring eggycrew.com for about around 2 years or so. That report can be viewed here: http://www.siteuptime.com/statistics.php?Id=30533&&UserId=44823
I will never promise something I cannot keep, and nobody can ever promise 100% uptime as things happen that are out of our control, but I definitely try my hardest to meet that goal. As you can see on the siteuptime report, the normal trend is 100% each month.
Rest assured if my alerts or customers don't let me know about a problem, my fiance sure will. Her personal @eggycrew.com email account is on the same server!
As far as the "Private Hosting Services" part of our name, EGGYCrew in the past was actually an invite-only company. I only allowed invited customers that I either met face-to-face, or that were invited through current customers to host with us. I have since dropped that requirement in place of keeping a *very* close eye on server resource usage and unethical/illegal activities. Luckily I have had very little problems with taking the company "public" in terms of unethical customers, and have found that for the most part providing personal, responsive service, even calling customers on my personal cell phone when I am not able to be at a computer at that time, is all that is needed to keep potential issues at bay.
I value server security and stability above all as I am sure you can tell. We are a small two man company, and actually enjoy it that way. I enjoy interacting with my customers on a personal basis, and I like to think that is the reason our customers are with us as well! :)
smiller2008 04-16-2008, 01:43 AM Well as a newer "web master" I've only had to deal with two previous web hosts.
My first one was a personal blog about myself where I just did a couple reviews for technology stuff and posted them up through the website. My host (Bluehost) told me that I had tons of space, but then banned my account for using a little bit over one gigabyte. After that I ended up giving up with the technology reviews as I really didn't have anything to keep reviewing.
Before finding out about eggycrew, I had a startup website called wii-wiki that I went with in an attempt to build a community of people. My webhost for those guys was go daddy, but when I was trying to do some ftp uploading, they banned my account and said I was uploading too big of files. I kind of quit at that point because there was no real desire to do anything at the time being.
After having a friend point me out to the eggycrew guys, I sent them an email and even before I was a customer they made it very clear that they were just going to make sure I had a great time with making a web page. Sure enough, I started up my web page and everything has been great since then.
As far as what support I needed goes, I really have just dealt with them twice. Once on a billing thing where I didn't want to pay too much, but then I realized that they weren't billing me at all. Another time I needed to create a symbolic link between folders, and then eggycrew's owner himself issued the ln -s for me, within seconds of me messaging him on aim. It was the best expample of true customer service I'd received in a long time.
If you have other questions you can reply here or go to my website and get my email! Thanks.
iastaff 04-16-2008, 03:19 AM Nice review. This was a nice thread to read. Thank you for your experience and the reply of the hoster.
CrazyPenguin 04-16-2008, 06:49 AM wiijabber.com (http://whois.domaintools.com/wiijabber.com) is only 15 days old?
CrazyPenguin 04-16-2008, 07:02 AM Your website looks very nice and loads very quickly.
Good review.

Did Bluehost give you a prorated refund?
What was the reason Bluehost gave you for banning your account?
Henrik 04-16-2008, 07:51 AM Nice that you've found a hosting provider you're happy with! :)
smiller2008 04-16-2008, 11:34 AM When it came to refunds, blue host didn't play any tricky games. They tried to keep me on board by offering some kind of deal, but seeing as they had already charged me the entire subscription up front versus them saying "insert whatever the price was here" per month, I was ready to be done with them.
I'm pretty sure they banned me for uploading a large amount of files within a small amount of time. It had something to do with the amount of bandwidth I used in the amount of time I had. Don't remember the exact details to be honest.
Anyway, I've learned that lesson and won't mess with anyone but a company that has outstanding customer service, such as Eggycrew. There are probably other hosts out there that offer a similar service, I truly suggest a company like Eggycrew to anyone. They have been nothing but honest and humble towards me, and it's something that not many businesses treat their customers like anymore.
