seobook.com is a good resource. You can also try to read on searchenginejournals.com or Matt Cutt's blog for more info on effective SEO.

Professional Search Engine Optimization with PHP: A Developer's Guide to SEO by Jaimie Sirovich and Cristian Darie

This is one great book! Although you need to be able to program in PHP to get the most out of it.
