Hi Guys,

About 2 years ago i paid my subscription to renew my domain name. Unfortuntly and unknown to me the hosting company was sold during this period, and as such didnt renew my site. Although i got my money back, I couldnt renew as another company had taken it. They didnt use the domain, it was just a parked domain with a search engine on. I have waited a year for the registration to expire only for some other company to do the same thing! Is there anything that i can do to get the domain name back? There is an "inquire about this domain" link on the front page wich points to a form on http://www.oregonnames.com however I dont want to contact them in case I get ripped off - or are they a reputable company?. Is there anything that can be done? Is it worth contacting the organistion that looks after .com domain names?

Thanks

Jtownson

doing a whois search displays these details;

Interlakenames.com LLC ( redemption@snapnames.com )

Are you able to give us the domain name? :)

I, personally, wouldn't post it. Better to seek the name and get it, and tell us later. ;)

But wouldn't that exactly defeat the purpose of this forum (or any forum)? The guy is looking for advice here, right?

But I too would NOT recommend posting that specific domain, either in public or "privately" via PM to some strangers.

Fair enough. :) I had a similar issue with trying to obtain a domain name that was registered by Snapnames (or any company or name that operators within the Snapnames group.)

Snapnames.com is pretty reputable; in addition I personally have experience of purchasing a quality domain name from them when they held it.

Go to the Snapnames homepage (http://www.snapnames.com/) and type in your domain in the box. Chances are they have either registered and are trying to sell it, or have registered on the behalf of someone else who now owns it.

I think the minimum cost of domains at Snapnames is $60 (when I did it that is, might have changed); though if you and someone else both want the domain it will go to an auction where the highest bidder gets the domain.

I doubt ICANN would be able to help you as while you did pay for the domain you got your money back; though you might be able to go down that route I have no personal experience so anything I say is nothing compared with someone who has personal experience in that region.

Considering it, if it is a quality domain name; I would agree with Bear and not post it. I didn't think about that when I made my last post and as such wouldn't heed my advice unless it's a very specific domain that only you would be interested in; though if it generates traffic that would also be a reason not to post it as many organisations pickup domains for traffic alone.

Hope that helps,

That was my point. Not to avoid advice, but to avoid naming it publicly until it's secured. ;)

You can try using back ordering.. godaddy is the one charges around $18. Contact to the current owner and make ur offer first...when will your domain name expire.. ? If it is expiring soon.. just wait.. do not make any offer, place your back order... Good Luck

^^ This is probably your best option. It sounds like it is a name that is being tasted (tested for traffic/revenue) but on a yearly basis by some entities. I give you a 40% chance of getting it back via backorder. Certainly don't express to the current owner you want it or are hoping to get it back unless you are willing to reach much deeper in your pockets..
