I am purchasing a RAQ 2 to be used for a backup server. Before I send it to the colo, I want to make some motifications such as doing a server restore and upgrading the hard drive. I understand I can connect it to a home PC using a cross-over network cable. Does anyone know how I can setup my home computer so that I can access ssh into the server from my local computer?

Also, does anyone know the maximum hard drive size on a RAQ 2?

Thanks a bunch.
DK

Hi DK,

I regularly restore RaQ's in this manner. After the restoration process, I assign the RaQ a LAN IP (192.168.1.x), and set the gateway as my router IP (Linksys) ... voila'

At that point I can access it from any machine on the home network, and if I do port forwarding or put it in the DMZ, anyone outside the firewall can reach it as well.

Good luck,

Brandon

Sorry missed the HD question... I think you can safely go up to a 30GB drive, but I'm not certain on that.

Thanks Brandon.
One more question:
I don't currently have a router (my home network is only 2 pc's, using a crossover cable). Would it be required to use one, or could I connect it directly to one of my pc's?
If I do purchase a router, how do I setup the router IP with windows.

Thanks again,
DK

You dont need the router, your crossover cable will do the same thing...

What would I use for the gateway address, without the router?
