View Full Version : Question about Boards.
AdminWHF 08-20-2002, 07:44 PM I see ppl wanting to by Vbulletin linences for 100$ somethings more,
whats the difference between VBulletin and say Ikonboard/InvisionBoard or bbphp
are they easier to use or install?
just wondering ,
:)
Hi AdminWHF
I had an Ikon board for a while and it was ok. But when I decided that I was serious about building a community I decided that I would change to V bulletin now rather than later.
Vb runs allot more solid than ikon does. Vb has a lot more features and in my opinion it looks a lot better. You get the support that you need. All there programmers are employees at ikon I believe they are all volunteers.
Ikon requires a cig bin and is hard on servers. Lots of hosts are refusing to allow people to install ikon boards.
I have no regrets at spending the money it’s a hobby of mine so what the hell lol
Hope this was helpful.
AdminWHF 08-20-2002, 09:27 PM Well i used to work with Ikonboards, i hacked it all teh time,( not like normal hacking) it was ok but most hosts are banning it now,
what about invisionboards they are php and i think they are quite good ,
i agree that VB are kool aswell
phpcoder 08-20-2002, 09:50 PM I would say Invision Board. Its free and has a great community. A big hacks/mods site. It has just about all the features that vb does and its free.

Ditto. :D
Darth 08-20-2002, 11:14 PM Invision Board is cool :)
RackFive 08-21-2002, 02:09 AM i like phpbb :)
markblair 08-21-2002, 02:13 AM Definitely InvisionBoard. Ikonboard is heavy on system resources and InvisionBoard is built by the same people that originally created Ikonboard. Regarding the free forums software out there, I think Invision wins hands down.
dreamrae.com 08-21-2002, 03:39 AM i liked yabb, but it uses too many sys resources, id recommend either IKONBOARD or PHPBB
AdminWHF 08-21-2002, 09:50 AM Well i was always using InvisionBoards, and from these replies I was right :)
thankx guys
archie2 08-21-2002, 01:13 PM It is InvisionBoard we will always prefer. It has great features.
mantra 08-21-2002, 01:33 PM Yeah, I just started using InvisionBoard for my new forum site. So far so good. I like the features and the ease of customization and best of all it's FREE!

If yabb takes up to many sys resources why use Ikonboard? Go to a php board then.... though Ikonboard PHP should be coming out soon.

Wait until v1.1 comes out. The template system is totaly new and will be like vb's (box for each section of html). The only bad part is that v1.0 skins wont work with v1.1 :(

yeah, can't wait for v.1.1
Raman Kumar 08-21-2002, 03:39 PM Invision Board is the fastest forum software avaiable. Additionally, it employs most, if not all, of the feature which vBulletin does. Its default version is aesthetically pleasing, and best of all, it's free! :D
phpcoder 08-21-2002, 04:08 PM It also looks so much better than vb3. If you haven't seen the vb3 demo go to the official site and take a look at it.
archie2 08-21-2002, 05:17 PM whats the web site for invisiojn board? is it in beta? lots of bugs?

Note: The current skin on vB3 is just the vB2 skin, the 3 skin isn't done yet....
