I hope this is the right place to post this if not feel free to move it. Well i thought i would share my story on how my hosting provider has just crushed my World. i bought this Script in hopes to run a nice Video community. I did the full install everything went GREAT and so i proceed to the admin to start running the tests. Needless to say i had more Fails than i did pass and they all had to do with the ffmpeg so after reading the getting started i see that if they are failing contact your hosting provider. So i did & advised them of what i was doing & BAM they hit me with it sorry sir we only allow ffmpeg with a dedicated server ( i have an Unlimited bandwidth Account with 1000gb disk space ) So i say well what would that coast me He says well our plans start at $174.00 a Month.....WOW how the heck could a man working a 9-5 ( and not a very high paying 9-5 ) providing for his family afford $174.00 a Month for a site that is not even generating $000.01 a Month ( do they think I'm the CEO of YouTube Or Myspace) So a long story short i now own a $200.00 script that will end up sitting on my filing shelf collecting dust. So anyone thinking of running a script that requires ffmpeg. ( Not that it is a bad script cause it is not. It is actually the best script out there for a video community ) Just do your hosting homework cause with ffmpeg it opens a whole new world for this script. I hope this helps other people so they don't run into this same problem that i did. its hard to fork over $200.00 to only have it collect dust. And if you have any feedback for me that might help i am all eyes and ears.

If they do not offer a money back guarantee, I suggest moving to another host. There are lots of hosts that support ffmpeg. Just put in a ticket and ask if they meet your requirements.

I'd recommend writing out a business plan with a detailed layout of the finances involved BEFORE you put out any more of that hard earned money on a project that sounds like it is way above your head.

Well i thought i would share my story on how my hosting provider has just crushed my World.

That's a bit dramatic, don't you think?

There are plenty of shared hosting providers who offer ffmpeg support. Just make sure you ask ahead of time, as a lot of these YouTube clone sites can be very CPU intensive and detrimental to other customers.

Dramatic much? Not sure why that should "crushed my World". :erm:

Running ffmpeg on a shared hosting system is pretty selfish. Think of the other users on the server. Do you think they'll appreciate having to wait 5 seconds longer to access their websites because your script is busy processing a 75mb video?

It won't take you long to find a host that allows ffmpeg. Just ask around at some of the hosts you find here, chances are one will.

Also, I don't mean to be a jerk or anything, but I think you got ripped off on your script. Youtube clone sites sell for $20 and under all over the net. Digital Point comes to mind.

I see you got a 'Unlimited BW & 1TB Disk Space', nothing is unlimited, and I'm sure they dont offer 1TB of disk space for the price your paying. :)

Dreams are crushed because some host shut you down? LOL...

You didn't even start the site... and $200 is hardly dream-crushing, even if your job isn't high paid.

They don't know how much money you make - they're simply saying that scripts like the one you have that probably use up a lot of bandwidth and server resources are not fit for their shared plans.

I second this opinion. If you are on a strained budget, don't go out on such an endeavour unless you can earn back your spendings pretty quick.

You already know I p'd myself at the 2nd reply dude.

I felt sorry for the guy in his 1st post because he should really have checked out the hosting side before wanting to run his " $200 clone script" on a shared hosting environment.

However after a few replies, he comes running out like a fit Charles Manson on steroids.

I think he's been pretty cattled by it all :)

how the heck could a man...

..post such a drama bomb. You want to run a HEAVILY cpu intense process in a shared environment? And you're pissed you can't? You don't rent a hotel room for a wedding reception, you rent a banquet hall. You should have done some homework before spending the $200, not after.

Theres cheaper dedicated solutions then hostgator .
Those plans are fully managed not the fastest of boxes from what I saw on there site .
If your willing to spend some time learning how to manage and monitor the server yourself youl find real good deals on dedicated boxes here in the offers section .
or give up and resale the script.

I understand you are frustrated at what you lost, but people here have lost a lot more then just not being able to host a script. There is nothing we can do and you should have done your research, you can always just go find a host that supports it. Sorry but this really isn't anything that we should be worried about, people have lost whole servers worth of data.

You will have to find a dedicated box to run your script on. You might find an unmanaged one for under a $100.00 a month but be sure to do your homework before you buy. Look for reviews, test the helpdesk, call the phone number listed if there is one.

Also keep in mind there is no such thing as unlimited bandwidth. You will see that listed on many sites, but its just not true. Bandwidth costs money, and someone has to pay for it (ie:you)

Anywho - this guy is having a laugh right? I mean - who trys to run that kinda of script on the typical 28472834723740gb host for $3 -- is he serious?

<<snipped>>

Makes sense to me - Personally the only thing that needs to go on a shared platform is a new business website to save a few quid to start with, IE does nothing special! :)

We are developing a site for a design client of ours whos using PHPMotion (a free video/audio sharing script similar to youtube) and I believe he has a VPS with WiredTree. You might want to check them out, they seem pretty reliable.

I dont think he knew any better. Not everyone is in the hosting business or has hosted a site before. Most of these "unlimited everything" hosts would have you believe you could host a google search engine off of them by what they put on thier pages.

Give the guy(or gal) a break. Everyone has to start somewhere and I am sure a lesson has been learned.

No one's forcing you to upgrade, so take comfort in that. Cancel (you might still be eligible for a refund under the money back guarantee) and find a replacement host that offers all the things required by your script. Keep in mind though a thing that was said: your site has the potential to use a lot of CPU's computing power. $10 will get you ~$10 of that, no matter where you go. To put it another way, you'll most likely be sharing the server with 100+ other users. ;)

If i have offended you in any way i am sorry, but calm down and look at it from where were looking at and you will understand.

And for your info my site is working fine :)

Youtube clone scripts can run well in a shared enviroment, It just depends on the script and the host as well as the media.

But it won't work out on a numbers host like the one your with.

Research Research Research.

Ask any potential provider about hosting such a script and will it run on their servers etc.

Your right an i agree, its just a bit harsh he just wanted help.

Going back to what i said about treating your customers, your going to eventually get some that are just as clueless as him, how are you going to treat them? Awesome because they have a $6 a month plan with you? Probably, but in this case you DON'T have to respond, so if someone looks stupid to you then you can pass on by but instead many made the CHOICE to post here and tell him he is stupid.

Everyone is different, i would have just moved on myself...

You win some you lose some. You might be able to get a semi- dedicated shared account with a company such as medialayer that can handle your site at least initially for 20-30 bucks a month and expand to a VPS and dedicated as you progress. If your site is worth having you should be able to cover the costs with advertising dollars and/or premium memberships that include bonus perks. If not well you tried you failed move on, not much sense crying over dead dreams.

Can we all get over this, stop with the dramatics please that will make me happier :)

Look ItsMe2 i have appologised and i will do it on behalf of everone else on here, but please leave the dramatics to a drama forum.

We are allways willing to help, and som of us did, however when you come in so strong its going to make us find things to say at you.

I hope you understand that there are no unlimited plans/plans with amazing amounts of gb and all that, think when your sitting at your computer you have a limit, so do servers, yes we can add more drives yet overall there is going to be a limit befor we would need another server because there is too much data for the server to cope.

I hope you understand.

And can we please just ignor this topic now :) it would be for the best :)

Sorry to sound bossy, but i think there is a limit and we reached it
