Hello all,

Wel I am going to eventually meet with a local accountant. However I wanted to ask here for some suggestions.

Those of you around here that have a registered company and offer software development / programming and graphic design what software do you use for book keeping/accounting

Of course I have been slowly playing with the idea and working on developing my own system. I don't want to have to pay for a system and have looked at a few free systems such as gnumoney as well as a few others. However all seem to be looking for a lot of information to be recorded.

I don't sell a tangable product and have no real tanagble assets other then one physical server.
As someone who does graphic design and software development is it good enough to just record who I get money from and why I got money from them along wsith the date and amount. Also is it sufficiant enough to just record who I pay and when and how much I pay them and for what purpose?? Is their any custom accounting that is developed just for graphic design and software development companies??

Thanks

If your volume is low and you plan to use cash-basis accounting, you can just track things in Excel. I did this a few years ago with a sole proprietorship (Schedule C) and at the end of the year, I just summed up different items into the appropriate categories on my schedule C. I think I never had more than 30 line-items each of expenses and revenues, so it didn't take long.
