hi, i am starting a site at the moment, selling digital goods, and I need to avoid fraud.

I see there are some services, but i dont really understand how they work, i have some questions hope you can share

+ I will use Paypal, Aplerpay, Moneybooker to collect payment, credit will go through paypal.

+ What is requirement to mix up with the service. Do I have to accept credit card payment on my site?

+ How is the regular fee? monthly fee, setup fee, is there any special fee?

One good service is MaxMind's Premium service (http://www.maxmind.com/app/ccfd_features). The standard plan is also good, but if you really want to get the best security you will pay a bit more per verification. You would need to have your own billing system installed that will communicate some of the customer's information to MaxMind through their API, document yourself and make sure you can integrate this first.

If you're accepting credit cards through PayPal then I don't understand point two "Do I have to accept credit card payment on my site?"..

Anyway to scan for fraud prior to order I would also recommend Maxmind :)

Maxmind offer a free trial account. I can recommend them.

Another out of the box solution is PreCharge.

I’m just curios now, but does paypal send credit card information back to a website once a transaction is made? Never heard of that before.

I see in your sign "www.vfraud.com (http://www.vfraud.com/) - Anti Fraud System, reduce chargeback's."

How is thsi service? better and more expensive than maxmind?

I asked maxmind, they reply quick, I may have to accept credit card directly on my site so, question is, can I do it with paypal? I see most site, customer will go to paypal.com to pay ?

You can test it for free and see what it can, just signup and make some test transactions. You can use it like a terminal. But I doubt that you will be able to use it with paypal since they don't release the cc information, which is good.

Note that MaxMind is only advisory service telling you which transaction(s) in their opinion has potential fraud risk. They will not actually protect from fraud and loses. We use MaxMind for many years and overall very satisfied with them. However we base our decisions from a number of factors receiving from a number of systems, including MaxMind. But I would never base my opinion solely on MaxMind fraud score response.

The fraud protection to be used is also very much depending on what products you are selling and to what markets.

It doesn’t depend on the marked nor the products or service sold.

Anytime you are going to sell some service or product through your website or in any other way in the CNP world you will need to have a proper Anti Fraud system in place, since fraud is worldwide growing and it will hurt your business sooner or later.

If you accept your payments by credit card from people you don’t know, you will need to have some verification of that card transaction in place, and since it is already well know that 3DSecure don’t offer you a 100% protection against fraud and you lose a lot of potential customers because they fail to full film the procedure of a 3Dsecure transaction, than you need an alternative.

You will need to use service like MaxMind or Vfraud or any other service which gives you the comfort to verify most parts of a credit card transaction.

What I meant that you need to be able to tweak the fraud screenening depending on what type of products you are selling.

Retail is very much different from adult and so on......

ebook, and game online keys

high chance to get problem.

I live in a country where fraud is so popular, i know how they do it

They purchase yahoo phone in to pass phone verification, they fake IP, use 0 blacklisted IP Proxy, and use full info card (with cvv, address, etc..)

not easy to detect...I dont think any service can detect good proxy from 5socks.net or using USA VPN

I don't know a fraud protection service to use on top of paypal, however, more traditional third party processors like Plimus and Digital River usually have their own fraud protection system integrated into their processing. For example ours is called V-Scrub.

You should also have some level of chargeback protection, so when fraud does occur, on your end it's nothing more than a refund, the processor eats the bank fee(usually $25-$50).
