Dear All,
Hello and greetings. Just would like to get your vote on the amount of virtual accounts that you host per each server.
Your comments and opinions are highly appreciated and so valuable to me.
Thanks for your cooperation.
PS: My vote goes for C1 Class ( 256 sites )

Well it all depends upon the specifications of the server itself, however a good server can hold 300-400......

It also depends on the quota of the virtual accounts (space and bandwith).
Hello,
Thanks for your post, I do agree with you.
What about managing your sites. Do you usually manage the sites on server ? I mean combining heavy loaded and regulars together ? Or you just separate them from each another ?
Heavy load accounts separate, regulars separate ?
Thanks anyway.

Heavy load accounts separate, regulars separate ? This also depends on 'how heavy' the 'heavy sites' are and again on the server specs. Load balancing is important. e.g. a good mix of light and heavy sites on each server. Exceptionally heavy sites do usually need to be loaded onto servers specifically for that purpose but 'heavy sites still within the boundaries of community services' simply need to be spread out over multiple servers that also service light load sites...
Deb,
Thank you very much for your prompt response.
Anyone else can give their commets ?

Again with the "depends" on how heavy the site is on CPU/IO resources, but even if all the sites were barely using any, there's a limit to hard disk drive space and open files. It depends on how big your plans are and how big your drives (and backup devices) are.
Not to mention file descriptors, inodes, and other ipc limits.
We can obviously only fit half as many of our larger accounts that have twice as big of a disk quota as our smaller accounts.
BTW: Where's the C1 Class distinction come from?

Like said above you could host 350+ small statics sites that get <5GB of bandwidth a month or host 10 resource intensive forums/ecommerce sites using large mysql databases and 50+ GB of bandwidth.. So basically it all depends on who you host.. I have about the same setup as above with 250ish OKI-B plans (under 1 gb of bw) and I have another server with 7 large sites utilizing mysql and large amounts of bandwidth(50gb+) and I would not put any more on it..
