View Full Version : Please help MediaLayer get my business!
echelondigital 04-09-2008, 02:44 PM I have been doing lots of research and MediaLayer apprears to have lots of support in these forums. I have sent some messages to them and they have been very prompt in responding. However, I am generally concerned about the stability of the company as it is only two years old and has only 6 employees.
I know that everyone has to start somewhere, but my concern is that as a growing company, they be prone to "glitches" that other "stable" companies would not be prone to. On the flip side, a smaller company may be more responsive and would be able to provide "personalized" support.
Are my concerns unfounded? I just need someone to convince me!
Thanks!
Tom
utropicmedia-karl 04-09-2008, 02:45 PM They are unfounded. Reviews should carry more weight then the length of time in business.
Regards,
umbrahosting 04-09-2008, 03:15 PM I agree. We are a small company and are able to thrive on the reviews that customers write for us. If users on this forum are endorsing the company then more likely than not you've found a good host.
echelondigital 04-09-2008, 03:33 PM Well that is exactly what I want to hear!
They obviously treat their customers well... If they did not, then I am sure that the reviews would not be as glowing as they are. It is not easy to find a bad review of them, which is definitely a plus.

Orien 04-09-2008, 03:43 PM If stability is your only concern, you won't be disappointed. :)

I agree. I have heard a lot of good reviews about them and i also looking them for my future needs.:)
viclopez 04-09-2008, 03:56 PM ive been with medialayer for about 2 months now. the 1 or 2 issues ive had, have been minor and never longer than 20 minutes.
their support staff is courteous, knowledgeable, and very fast.
i might be moving my site away from them as its outgrowing their packages and it makes more fiscal sense to move it to a dedicated server.
but as far as my experience has been, its been amazing. best host ive ever dealt with.
The Stealthy One 04-09-2008, 05:54 PM From a host's perspective, I will tell you this: it is very hard to ask a user to write a review, and actually have it done. In fact, it has never happened in my years (nearly 4 now) in the hosting business. The best reviews come from users who's needs were truly met by the service, and who are extremely happy with the service. So from a host's standpoint, I can only echo what's already been said: if you are finding more than a handful of good reviews, they probably really are a great host.
echelondigital 04-09-2008, 06:24 PM Well, I just placed the order!
I appreciate everyone's input on both of the threads that I started. This is truely a great resource that I have researched in the past, and I am very glad that I took the time to ask questions again.
Thanks everyone!

ldcdc 04-09-2008, 06:30 PM 2 years is not such a small time for a host to have survived. It's enough to let most of the cracks in the business model become visible. That is, if there are any.
Edit: Good luck, and let us know how things go. :agree:

There is so much truth in that :)

You're going to have a great time there.
MikeDVB 04-09-2008, 09:09 PM I've heard nothing but good things about MediaLayer, and when it comes to the hosting industry 2 years is in fact, as mentioned above, quite a long time to stay in business. I've watched a few web hosts just in the last few months start and then die.

Let's not forget about all the 'summertime hosts' -- they open up about May-June and close in September-October when school starts back up, just as 'something to do'....
RossMAN 04-09-2008, 10:24 PM Tom,
Just remember to keep frequent backups, regardless of which web host you choose.
You are going to post an indepth review here in a few months, right? :)
