View Full Version : adding a domain registration service to your web site
webDivisor 08-20-2002, 01:38 PM Hi,
Currently, I am looking forward to adding a new service to my web site that will register clients domains, change information, update nameservers, renew domain names, etc...
I have seen a lot of other companies offering this, but under their brand name, or some sort of a portal off of your web site. But I am looking for something that is totally customizable and could be established in my current layout...
any ideas? or links?
thanks
Chaps 08-20-2002, 01:47 PM Dotster sounds like a match made in heaven for you :)
interactive 08-20-2002, 01:53 PM this probly wont work but netsol i believe has something that may work for you.
ffeingol 08-20-2002, 02:27 PM Dotster is one way to go. They have a templated system, so you just need to build/upload your tempate. From what I remember, their wholesale price is $12.00 (USD) so your domains would have to be more than that.
OpenSRS and eNom might be two other solutions. They both have API that you can use to interface with then.

webDivisor 08-20-2002, 02:39 PM has anyone actually used any of those companies? and how did they work out in customizing the entire interface?
ffeingol 08-20-2002, 02:46 PM webDivisor,
There are dozens of eNom resellers at WHT and prob. as many or more OpenSRS. I believe www.namecheap.com is an eNom reseller and www.000domains.com is OpenSRS.
OpenSRS has been around for quite a while (owned by tucows) and has a very well documented API. eNom is the new kid on the block. They have very agressive prices but a not very well documented API.
I know more about eNom, as we are eNom resellers. Feel free to IM/PM me.

thanks OpenSRS (http://www.opensrs.org/) would be highly recommended for this job, since you can add CGI scripts to your own site and customize the templates etc to integrate with your own website layout. This also includes the ordering forms and e-mails that are sent out to the customer. Also, it's already been mentioned, but they document their API very well, including sending you updates of whats going on with their developments in terms of system upgrades and new features.

webDivisor 08-20-2002, 03:38 PM Can openSRS also be used for asp.net pages?
ffeingol 08-20-2002, 03:41 PM webDivisor,
eNom might be easier for that (but I'm not that familar with OpenSRS). eNom has a com interface (i.e. asp).

ho247 08-20-2002, 03:45 PM The API for OpenSRS is done in CGI, there might be an ASP integration done by a third party. I know there's a PHP version on SourceForge.

webDivisor 08-20-2002, 03:47 PM the type of solution that I am looking for is one that is totaly customizabable.
Something where all the details can be entered on my currrent website, and the variables passed to the other server, then passed back, and other content displayed to the user based on their selection...
Making everything extraordinarily customizable...
note: i am an asp.net programmer, so support is a must...
any ideas?

I use Dotster. I am pretty impressed.
Have a look at my system (I am redesigning it.)
DO NOT BUY HERE, THIS IS FOR EXAMPLE ONLY!

Look at my site and the registration area, very customizable!
Well people have been saying it in a few posts:
ENOM:
http://www.enom.com/resellers/
http://www.enom.com/resellers/InterfaceInfo.asp
They also have PDQ which costs $99 annually:
http://www.enom.com/help/faq_pdq.asp
You wouldn't have to program anything extra it's all included. :D
ciao ;)
ffeingol 08-20-2002, 04:00 PM webDivisor,
Here is the doc on the eNom com interface http://www.enom.com/resellers/InterfaceInfo.asp.

IntraHost 08-20-2002, 07:54 PM You can also use itsyourdomain.com. They charge $14.95/domain.
We use them, and you can resell through us for $12/domain/year.
