Hi all

Could anyone shed any light on this whois output?

------------------------

whois drc.net
[whois.crsnic.net]

Whois Server Version 1.3

Domain names in the .com, .net, and .org domains can now be registered with many different competing registrars. Go to http://www.internic.net for detailed information.

DRC.NET
DRC.NET

To single out one record, look it up with "xxx", where xxx is one of the of the records displayed above. If the records are the same, look them up with "=xxx" to receive a full display for each record.

>>> Last update of whois database: Mon, 19 Aug 2002 16:51:58 EDT <<<

The Registry database contains ONLY .COM, .NET, .ORG, .EDU domains and
Registrars.

------------------------

What's the deal with there being two entries for this name? I picked this domain as an example, there a few more I've come across in the past.

Cheers

Matt

Obviously registrar has a duplicate record in their DB. Try doing a whois on microsoft and see what rubbish comes up :)

Cheers guys. How can I go about getting the whois data for one of the duped names?

What domain are you looking at? Is it DRC.NET? This is registered at Star-gate, and their whois is known for being foobar most of the time.

Domain Name: DRC.NET
Registrar: ******** COMMUNICATIONS, INC.
Whois Server: whois.***********.com
Referral URL: http://www.***********.com
Name Server: DNS1.***********.NET
Name Server: DNS2.***********.NET
Updated Date: 19-aug-2002

In the distributed whois model, you can find out the definitive registrar for a domain at http://www.internic.net/cgi/whois, and then go to the individual whois service for the actual data.
