A couple weeks ago I signed up with fdcserver.net. Since then my
dedicated server has crash six times. I've been large ignored by ignored the good folks there. I strongly warn anyone against using the services of this web host.

yeah, just like rackshack. they use cheap substandard hardware. but once its up, its fine. but unlike rackshack, they don't have decent network connectivity.

Was this a hardware crash?

Not leaning towards fdcservers.net's side, but if they've ignored you, it seems your server wouldn't have been able to crash 6 times. That is unless you fixed the problem yourself after a bit of time. :D

Also, this very well could have been your problem. You may have been doing something very wrong on your server and it crashed because of that. I, myself, have done this twice, and once it made me purchase a complete system restore.

Of course, if it was a hardware problem, I doubt you could have caused it as you have no physical access to the server (unless your colocating, which it looks as though you aren't).

I'm using the dedicate sever for a mirror site. I have not touched it since load the files onto the server. The you crashed it youself argument is not going to work in this case. :D

Heh, but you still didn't answer my question.

Was this a hardware crash?

smidswap, have you ever used fdc? if so, then you'd know its more likely a hardware failure than a client flaw.

I have no idea what the problem is here. Maybe Jethro spilled moonshine on the server, or Elmer the servie support guy is out at the county fair showing off his prize bull.

hmm. but fdc support has been quite good to me actually. they fix my problems relatively quickly, so i am impressed overall with support. now only if they did something about that network, it'd b a dream host.

Cannot say a bad thing about fdcservers either.

They have been good to me hardware- and network-wise. No good or bad experience with support, I didn't need support yet.

The server that I have (the $399/month server AMD 1900, 1GB) doesn't seem to have any hardware problems whatsoever, and I am serving an average of 300 files per second at excellent speed through it for 2 months in a row 24/7, with only 2 scheduled downtimes because of network maintenance on fdcserver's side, but the server itself has yet to fail once.

That pretty much what everyone says about their high end servers (399$ ones), while all the complains seem to be about their low end servers...

I have one of their lower end servers (well, if you can call an XP 1900+ with a GIG of ram and 2 40 GIG drives low end ;) ) and haven't had any problems with FDC support, while I've been with them from about the time they started up.

I had network speed issues for about a month, but these were recently resolved when they spent a lot of time testing a load of things to see what was causing the bad speeds. My greatest thanks goes out to FDC for investing so much effort into this for me.

Only hardware issue I had was when one of their techs accidently pulled my XP+ processor and replaced it with a Duron for some unknown reason (even nobody at FDC know who did this or why), but I got an XP reinstalled that was faster than the original XP processor as compensation for the mishap, so I can't complain.

Where else are you going to find a provider that doesn't charge for overages and server restores? I have read posts of people complaining about the FDC support, but I certainly aren't one of them as I've been treated like a king by them.

I noticed in one of the many messages that went back and forth between them and me that *they* call low end everything that's not on their 399$ plan. So that's why I used the same term...

I'm referring here to their old website, as the server specs seem to have changed a bit since they redesigned it.

You have great service from FDC? I'm glad for you (honnestly!). But I've been with them for over 2 months now and I've (almost) always had an important packet loss problem. And no matter how many messages I sent them, the issue was never settled.

The (almost) pisses me off. That's because just now, while writting this message, I decided to test the link, and it comes out better than ever, with no packet loss at all. I test the server now about every 3 days (it was a lot more often during the first weeks, until I gave up), and the link has never been this good.

They were my 2nd choice (1st at the time was rackshack, but someone beat me to the server I wanted... long story). But just after signing up with RS I regretted it and wished I'd found out about FDC first. I wished for the last 10 weeks I'd gone with someone else after all, and as I'm about to get a server elsewhere, FDC starts working as it should. :uzi:

Why can't I win, just this once???

I wouldn`t call ASUS manufactured machine substandard and that`s all we`ve been using for last 3 months

You should get some N440BX (intel server) boards for the lower end boxes, they are *extremely* stable boards, I have two of them here... some will only support PII, and some of the newer ones will take PIII 600mhz (boards are dual capable).

Just a thought

I have three ASUS boards running under my desk, and they have been for 3 years straight.

ASUS works, it's the uninformed static creators that damage hardware and cause this and that.

Replaced many a stick of ram, many a cpu, and planar board due to "It's just not working right" or, it does this, and then it does this... no care anymore working with hardware, just slap it together, 6 hour burn in and it's in production.

Build your own, deliver it to the datacenter and install it yourself, then you know what you have.

I probably got your server.

It has crashed over... uhmm.... lost count around 15+ ...

Was it an AMD XP 1900 with 512MB RAM?

The other servers I got from them are just fine, but this one, god dang its horrible. And they still won't answer my e-mails on the situation :(

people, just dont forget that FDC like Rackshack, do sell UNMANAGED servers, what means that normally they can not offer support if they want to. Rackshack does this.

I am for 1 month now at FDC servers. Their support is excellent for unmanaged servers. The network is excellent too. Never was slow and the speeds reached over 6Mb/sec, which is really great.

However i have a problem with their hardware, and i also think that the asus machines they use, are not the best solution for the Linux powered machines (KL133 chipset, i had some data corruption etc). The machine never failed by its own, all the times, it was mostly my fault.

Just choose an Intel solution and you will be very satified. I dont think that there is a better dedicated hostig provider out there.

FDC change my additional IP's subnet that i use for 2 month without my permission and answer this:

"There is nothing we can do or fix , if we gave you incorrect information in the past we are sorry but according to our database you have

* * * * * *

if you`ve been using *** subnet it might have been working as that subnet was vacan for some time but it is not anymore

sorry about the inconvinience

FDCservers"

Is thus professional?
Now i re-register (change) my nameservers with new IP's and my domain names with ns1/ns2.***.com not working for 72 hours!!!

Until today everything was great. However, the server crashed twice today.

are they re-arranging subnets? i've been down for about the last 40 minutes and have no idea what's up.

Hey! Some time ago RackShack rebooting my server with fsck, memory test e.t.c about 5 hours.

But today FDC dont respond to my reboot request more then 1 hour! I waiting for reboot right now but no answer and my server still offline...
