Hi everyone,
I'm currently on a shared hosting on hostgator running a few sites including a forum.
I'm looking for a VPS Fully Managed as I'm not experienced enough for a self-managed. Preferably in the Netherlands or Sweden.
I found SolidHost.com through here and was wondering if there's any offers going?
Thanks
Glen

Hello Devilfish, welcome. Enjoy your visits. :wht:
A couple points of interest are the forum guidelines (http://www.webhostingtalk.com/rules.php) and this answer guide (http://www.webhostingtalk.com/showthread.php?t=585586).

I am not sure that I would use a VPS server it could cause you to lose some credibility with future clients. (VPS - Virtual private server (VPS) (also known as Virtual Dedicated Server (VDS)), a type of web hosting based on the concept of partitions on mainframes and advanced resource scheduling to divide a computer into many virtually isolated servers. It is a server that runs inside another server. Each VDS acts like a dedicated server but shares the same hardware. I would rather run an upfront company that clients can count on.
I would suggest vds. To start with though. It is a great start.

Hi JTBarker,
There's no way I could afford a dedicated never mind manage it. And the shared option is too slow so the VPS or VPN is the only option (I think lol).
Each VDS acts like a dedicated server but shares the same hardware. I would rather run an upfront company that clients can count on.
In all honesty, that last comment doesn't make sense. Sure, if the host (which controls the physical server) doesn't manage their servers well, there are going to be problems. But any reliable host will take perfect care of their servers.
Just because a VPS (or VDS) is a virtual machine doesn't mean you're not being upfront with your clients. There's absolutely no need to hide the fact that you are using a VPS. You're only not being upfront if you would deliberately hide that from your clients.
In many cases VPS's are much more reliable than dedicated servers (except if you go for a really high-end dedicated server - but how many people really do that?). In 9 of 10 cases a VPS host will use top quality hardware (think of RAID, real server hardware, etc), opposed to the budget hardware that's often used for dedicated servers.
I'm not saying that VPS's are always better than dedicated servers, but if I would have to choose between a €50/mo VPS or a €90/mo dedicated server, I would definitely go with the VPS (if it's a reliable company, of course).
Just my $0.02. Good luck with your search!
