Thanks for you.... eviltechie 04-03-2008, 08:33 AM Say what? You want to run PhpBB and Invision Power Board together?...sharing users? d4us159 04-03-2008, 10:13 AM Hello, yes, I want to host forums for my site visitors for free, they will choose phpbb or IPB... Thanks for you... linux-tech 04-03-2008, 10:20 AM AFAIK , can't be done with IPB any more. The software isn't free. sebflipper USED to have something, but I can't find it on their website (trust me, I've been a-looking, it's one of the few that I'm missing). PHPBB, you have a choice. #1, you can go with sebflipper (sebflipper.com) #2, you can go with echophp (echophp.com) Even if you could go that route with IPB, I wouldn't. The software is out of date, and by now, most likely insecure as all hell. BTW, I'll add to that list if you're interested in it. SMF: webautosoft.com Be very, very careful with these guys. They're slow as anything and, well, the response is the typical response I get from developers We'll get to it when we feel like it MyBB: http://www.webringamerica.com/mybbmf/ This one takes a bit to do, but it's worth it. PunBB: Haven't found anything yet, but I'm looking. If anyone knows where to find multi-forum scripts for this software, by god lemme know ;) VB: Probably would break the license somehow, but it would be amusing to see it pulled off (legally). IIRC there was one out there, but I can't find it. Yes, I've done just a bit of work in the multi-forum department ;) d4us159 04-03-2008, 10:40 AM Hello, Thanks for post :),, 1. I want to ask, does sites that hosting forums like forumer.com ipbfree.com invisionfree.com making a good or big and even huge revenue from this service?? 2. in my country, IPB is common and famous board, and a little percent of people using phpbb, so can I integrate IPB in echophp script!! there are many sites that hosting IPB for free without any problem... linux-tech 04-03-2008, 10:49 AM there are many sites that hosting IPB for free without any problem... That doesn't make it secure, or mean it's safe to do. There's also many sites hosting php3 and php4 setups that are just as insecure. The sites you've listed are running custom developed software, some good, some not so much. If you want to develop your own software for this, prepare to spend a good bit of time doing so. d4us159 04-03-2008, 10:50 AM I want to ask, does sites that hosting forums making a good or big and even huge revenue from this service?? linux-tech 04-03-2008, 11:02 AM Whether or not you make any money off of the site really depends on you, your advertisement goals, and where you're going with things. Personally, pushing between 7-15k ads a day (across a good number of zones), I'm lucky to make $5/day which is really bad, but then again I deal with google ads and kontera, instead of dealing with popups, forced ads (ie: in between pages), etc, which would make a good deal more money I'm sure. Again, it's really all going to depend on your ad network, who you're going through, etc. It'll take time to build up a proper forum network, Rome cerainly wasn't built in a day. The bigger places you listed probably do grab a bit of money, but they've been around longer too. When you can get a reputation for yourself, then you'll be doing ok for forums and ads. Till then, it'll be a struggle to stay alive. I started out with this thing myself just over a year ago. To date, I'm looking at around 1000 forums and 5-10x as many posts. Would be more if I didn't screw up my last phpbb3 update, causing an entire site wipe, but what do you expect with alpha software . Running solely off of advertising is , well, it's hard to pull off, until you're big enough where you NEED 5 or 6 servers to pull it off ;). d4us159 04-03-2008, 11:51 AM Hello, Thanks for you... 1. why 7K-15K impressions of ads jst making 5$ a day!! what's this ads company? but in average, 7k-15k of impression of Google Ads, what's will be the revenue? 2. what's multiforum script do you use? 3. do you prefer a specific multiforum script?? Thanks for you... linux-tech 04-03-2008, 01:38 PM #1: That was answered in my last post. Really, I don't want to break down and go with anything that's not 'family friendly', so, I chose to go with google and kontera. Google is probably one of the lowest paying programs in the industry, sadly. Kontera isn't too bad, but they only get around 2k displays/day themselves. The rest are all the separate zones for google (top, bottom, post, etc). For myself (and again, this is strictly me speaking from personal experience), 7-15k google alone wouldn't bring in that much. Again, from personal experience, google last week (25k) brought in $5. It's all about placement, but you can't really 'place' ads all too well on forum scripts. Top, bottom, that's all you get. #2: see #1 #3: Really, not so much. I find that I go with what works. I'm really in the market for completing the spectrum as it were, just because I want to be able to say "yeah, I host multiforums in every possible forum", but that's a goal I won't complete this year, or next I'm sure, because it's going to take a lot of work to do it. Working with the mybb script alone took me a good 3 days to get things setup and running right, and that's an OS piece of software (Open Source), so it'll be more tricky working with things like echophp and webautosoft. d4us159 04-03-2008, 03:06 PM Hello, I am exploring your site phpbb4free.com, but I didn't see Google Ads and any ads!!! I think that you should place more ads, because there is no ads !! I see some big sites using echotopic ads!!! Thanks for you... Woooo 04-06-2008, 01:48 PM echophp.com smfmultiforums.com |
