View Full Version : Accepting credit cards outside US
manaay 04-02-2008, 09:49 AM Hello,
I would like to accept credit cards on my site in a way that user will stay on my site during the payment process.
I already checked PayPal Website Payments Pro but the problem is that it is available only for US and UK.
Since I can't use PayPal because I am not in US or UK I have the following questions:
a) Is it possible to open internet merchant account without having a company ??
b) on moneybookers.com I noticed that for paying with credit card they require customer to be registered at their site. Is this true?
c) Does authorize.net provide functionality to send money - similar to PayPal's Mass Pay?
d) Maybe I can still use PayPal Website Payments Pro by opening bank account in US.. is this possible for non-US citizens/companies??
Answer to any of the questions above will be appreciated.
regards,
manaay
marcbarak 04-02-2008, 10:17 AM what country are you in?
manaay 04-02-2008, 10:50 AM I am from Slovenia - Europe.
marcbarak 04-02-2008, 10:54 AM so ... they do not allow you to get a PayPal account in ANY way?
or are there restrictions?
manaay 04-02-2008, 11:03 AM I can have PayPal account but to use WebSite Payments Pro I need US bank account (and US company I think). I want solution similar to WebSite Payments Pro so that customer will stay on my website during payment process (if using credit card).
u4t2t 04-02-2008, 01:08 PM if you have volume you can consider merchant account on your own
kemuel 04-02-2008, 05:27 PM My experience with non-US paypal is that receiving money is no issue but you usally not a credit card to add money and get verified. Withdrawing to bank account usually isn't an issue either. Have you tried setting paypal up fully? Though we use a US paypal to accept payments, so I may be wrong.
manaay 04-03-2008, 03:26 AM Can anyone please answer questions a) and c)
Thank you.
RiskPayments 04-03-2008, 02:39 PM In general, in order to get a direct merchant account you need a legal presence (either an incorporation or citizenship) in the same country as the acquiring bank. If you are a sole proprietor and have citizenship in the same country as the bank, then you might not need an incorporation.
u4t2t 04-04-2008, 01:52 AM c) authorize.net is not merchant account
manaay 04-04-2008, 02:46 AM I know it is not. I am wandering if it is possible to send money to client using their API. What I found is that I can use transaction of type "Unlinked Credit" but my application needs to be approved form their side: developer.authorize.net/guides/AIM/Submitting_Transactions/Credit_Card_Transaction_Types.htm
Is anyone sending money this way?
Corey Bryant 04-04-2008, 05:34 PM Manaay, you might want to re-consider using Authorize.net as a testing environment - chances are you might not get a merchant account that is compatible with it since you are not in the United States. Chances are very slim that you will get a merchant account based on your location.
You might check out the gateway protx.com and see if they could support you. Barclay's and Lloyd's might be another option and WorldPay could be an alternative.
manaay 04-05-2008, 04:06 AM First I would like to thank you for all the replys I got till now.
Does this mean that not all merchant accounts work with authorize.net? Are the rules - which accounts are accepted and which not - written anywehre? Or should I ask each gateway if they are compatible with particular merchant account?
sherlockian21 04-05-2008, 10:06 AM actually i also operate my ecommerce biz outside USA and I had the same problem.
but then i find that there are only 2 payment pages, so I dont mind my customers go to PayPal pages. You can have your logo placed on top. As long as you have your own shopping cart, I dont think customers mind.
joomjump_com 04-05-2008, 02:59 PM Hi
Have you tried worldpay.com? Or notchex?
Alertpay is quite good.
Or perhaps as above, try seeing if you can get a full Merchant account in your country.
manaay 04-07-2008, 02:16 AM sherlockian21: do you use Website Payments Standard?
Which type of account you have? Personal, premier or business?
sherlockian21 04-07-2008, 04:22 AM business. website standard.
