Im going to install redhat later on today, im sure I can use win2k's boot loader to boot linux, which is just as good as the other, win2k loader or the LILO loader? lilo should pick up win2k and auto config it.

In the past I belive that you install windows then linux. Letting windows get use to linux. Shouldnt be a problem

Either way will work fine. You can use the Windows boot loader, or LILO, or grub, or...

I'd use a boot disk. It's much easier, especially if you use windows on a more frequent basis.

I think a boot disk is more of a hassle, personally. It's annoyingly slow to load that way, and in Windows boot loader or LILO, Grub, etc. you just select what you want to boot into on boot up. It can default to whatever OS you want it to within so-many seconds. It can't get more simple than that.

Have to agree with what he said. You can edit both loaders to set time outs and which one loads by default, i just wondered if there was differences.....

LILO is a great loader.

If you install NT first, linux second, most distros will install the loader automatically and add a menu item for your NT partition.

Microsoft's loader is rather limited and tends to be cranky.

use grub, it should do everything you need.
in most lilo configs, if you type "linux" or "windows"

it gets you where you want
